If you don't want it to be too 'Potterish' you could do a similar name, like instead of Hermione you could use Persephone.

I think any name you do from HP or LOTR, people are going to know that you got it from HP and LOTR. And when your kid is grown up, their friends are going to ask how their parents came up with such a unique name, and they are going to answer sheepishly it was from some cult book everybody read during their time. Not that the names in the books aren't cool, just that you have to think about these things in the long run.

1. I'm sorry you misunderstood, I was not having an attitude.
2. I checked in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draco and I cannot see how Draco would refer to Serpent, unless it is associated with all kind of lizards.
3. I do not know how reliable is babynamesworld.com, but as we are talking about Harry Potter (& Lord of the Rings) names, I reffer to the meaning of character Draco Malfoy as J.K Rowling explained it in www.jkrowling.com.

Actually, I think that there are a lot of meaningful names in both sagas and that's what attracts people. Most of the names for HP are from Greek Mythology (Minerva, Rubeus, Argus, Andromeda, Bellatrix, Narcissa, Remus, etc etc etc), or are star names (Sirius, Orion, etc) or folklore names ( Flawkes and i really can't recall any right now). Anyway i think that most of them are completely impossible to use (especially the ones i like)*sighs*

Do you know what wiki means? Those are websites that anyone with access to a computer can edit or add to. I don't think they are very reliable.

I actually don't see what the problem with people knowing that you got your child's name from the Harry Potter series. It's not "some cult book everybody read ", its an amazing work of literature that will be read for decades to come.

Thanks for the data. So forget points 2 & 3. I really don't wanna go on the discussion.

Thumbs up, Momo Cicerone for not bothering to argue back.
I'll just throw my two cents in here, Sirius Orion sounds so handsome to me.

Another neat thing that Draco is.

Draco the Dragon: A constellation.

I love constellation type names. :D

I've always loved LotR. What about the name Laurelin? It means golden tree in elvish. You could always spell it differently as well. Just a thought. GL!

My personal favorite Lord of the Rings name is Elanor, the name Frodo gives to Sam's daughter. It's a small golden flower. You can always change the spelling to Eleanor too.

I think Lily Luna is a pretty name for a girl.

Oh, and do NOT name your baby Narcissa. Narcissistic is self-absorbed and vain. like in the myth, about Narcissus, who saw his reflection, fell in love with himself and withered away into nothing. Just some advice.

One of the previous posters actually recommended using Tolkien and Rowling as names...I LOVE this idea!

Tolkien Sirius Patterson/Tolkien Patterson/TSP
Lucius Rowling Patterson/Lucius Patterson/Luke Patterson/LRP

As for girls I like:

Lily Bellatrix Patterson/Lily Patterson/LBP
Arwen Jane Patterson/Arwen Patterson/AJP

Have you decided on anything yet???

Ginevra is my pick. Well that or Hermione. But agirl named Hermione would have people mispronouncing her name left and right.
