I put Octavia in a poll on here, it was voted "no", 10 to 1

Oh well, at least I like it!

I think it's a neat name...do you pronounce it oc-TAH-via or oc-TAY-via?

Thank you!

I personally pronounce it oc-TAY-via. I know that it can be pronounced oc-TAH-via, but the only place where it is usually pronounced that way is in Hispanic countries, since "A"s are pronounced "ah" in Spanish. Octavio, the male version of the name, is really popular in Spain, and it's pronounced oc-TAH-vee-oh. But, I live in America, not Spain, and most people here when they see Octavia say "oc-TAY-via", so I am most comfortable with that pronunciation.
Also, I absolutely loooove Freya, Madeleine, Julian, and Thomas! Freya Madeleine is a very appealing combination especially.

Yeah, it's a little tricky -- I grew up in south-eastern Texas so there were a lot of "ah" sounds in the names of people I knew. Sometimes it's still hard to mentally separate the pronunciation of the vowels from Spanish to good ol' American.
Thanks! I've been very enamored with Freya lately, especially since reading that she rode around in a cat-drawn chariot. Totally awesome

Freya is incredibly beautiful. I like how it's a Scandinavian, mythological name, but it doesn't look as foreign as a lot of foreign names do, which totally gives it a lot of appeal. I have encountered a lot of people who were like "Freya?! That's not a real name! You made that up!" I am just like what?! There are a ton of real made-up names out there, and you think Freya is fake? Oh boy.

Haha, that's so funny! Yes, sometimes the south seems like a whole new country. I live in New York and a lot of people from Texas go to my college actually. It's kind of odd; I'd never consider traveling across the country to go to college! They always comment how different it is from Texas, haha.

Oh man, the rest of the United States seems like a whole different world compared to Texas, haha! Most people assume since I'm from TX I grew up on a horse and whatever other stereotypes, but I was born and raised in Houston which is a bajillion times more technologically advanced and overall edjumacated than anywhere else I've lived in my adult years. Ah, well.
I agree on the Freya tip. That's so weird people think you made it up -- it's worlds away from Timbriana or Mystaque Fra'Shonna or whatever other crazy names are in this "Baby Names Countdown" book my bf picked up from the thrift store.

One of the girls who goes to my college is from Houston! I've never been there, or Texas, but I definitely don't assume that all Texans are cattle ranchers (although I do know some who are, haha). Everybody has sterotypes about some state. I say I'm from New York, people automatically assume New York City, and then it's just an awkward conversation, because they start asking me about life in NYC, and I have to explain that there's actually this whole state called New York, and it has twice as many people as the city! What do you know!

Oh, for sure! My parents are originally from Buffalo, and I used to spend a lot of time up there. Anytime I mention that my family is from New York I get the same thing. Reminds me of back when AOL was first becoming popular, and the awkward conversations in the chat rooms..."I'm from Texas" "I know someone from Texas! Do you know Vanessa Jones?" uh, yeah right, haha!

Ah, Buffalo. Cold, gray, snowy, dreary. Haha! I go to college near Rochester, so I have pretty much the same weather, but not as bad as Buffalo. They really get hit with the lake front stuff.
People still do that too! "I'm from ______" "Oh, I know somebody from there, do you know them?" I do not know why people do that! Do they honestly think you're going to know one person, out of the 30 million that live in your state? Sometimes if somebody says they are from a particular place, I ask if they know somebody, but its only when I am pretty sure that they would (for example, I am from a pretty rural area, and all the schools around me are really small, so if somebody says they go to a certain high school, I'll say "Oh, do you know..."). But I wouldn't say "Oh, you visited Alaska on your honeymoon back in 1997? I have a great uncle twice removed who lives in Juneau! Did you meet him?"

but today I really like the name Heritage
I'd never use it of course, but I saw it on another site's forum. This woman works at Gettysburg, and that is what she named her daughter

Heri would be a cute nick, I think
