After so many years with a house packed full of people, it was definitely quite the adjustment as the kids began their adult lives and began moving out. Most of the kids remained local, favoring the community they were raised in, while others adventured out.
Forrest had a passion for bee's. He began as a business that humanely removed bees from unsafe and unwanted locations and transferred them to more ideal locations. Once he had his own house and land, he added the sale of honey. He met Mercedes while in town. Their romance had begun slow and cautiously, meeting in town for milkshakes and talking for hours past the time they'd intended. It sealed the deal for For when he brought Mercedes to meet his family and they loved her! For and Mercedes shared a love for their family traditions that was intensified as they blended their lives together. Mercedes had originally been a tad nervous about the bee's but found herself pleasantly surprised by what that looked like. Not long after marriage, they decided they were ready to begin growing their family. First they welcomed a baby girl, Sofia Esmeralda! Sofia had been a name Mercedes had loved since she was a little girl, imagining princesses and royalty, while Esmeralda had been her abuela. When they welcomed their second little girl, they chose Olivia as a name For had loved dearly and Paloma as her middle, loving the meaning "dove" and the associations that come along with doves.
Penny had decided she wanted to experience more of the world. She traveled down the east coast, enjoying a little longer in Maine, a teensy bit of New Hampshire, through Massachusetts, Rhode Island... While in Rhode Island, Penny met Ray. He had also been vacationing in the area. Neither of them had intended to stay there as long as they did, but days turned into weeks of absolute bliss. When Penny discovered she was pregnant, neither were surprised due to their lac of caution yet they felt excited. A little nervous but excited, none the less. Penny decided she would be happier to welcome her child surrounded in family so they both moved up to Maine. As Ray worked as an aircraft mechanic, he was able to transfer his services relatively smoothly. His career did involve travel, being sent on road trips around the state for repairs. Penny was grateful to be living closer to her family for those times when he wasn't home. It was a rather big shock when, having forgotten to have a proper conversation about the families magic, Ray witnessed one of his mother in law's practicing magical spells for healing. He hadn't thought much about witchcraft before much less seeing potions that absolutely did help, words whispered melodically and ailments fading. While it was frightening, it was wonderful too. Not long after their son, Ethan, was born, Ray decided to finally propose and Penny said yes! They had a quick, intimate wedding, only family involved.
Em met Michael at the library in town. Em worked there as a librarian. Michael was an avid reader who visited a lot of libraries and bookstores, often traveling purely for the experience of a peaceful new environment to sit and enjoy his next read within. Michael had never been to a library so enchanting as Em's. There were a few cats roaming the store, sometimes resting up top of shelves or other times sleeping soundly in the cushioned reading chairs. There was hanging plants, potted plants, and greenery all around. The woodwork had all clearly been hand carved with incredible skill. The soft, natural lighting was soothing as the gentle silence. It seemed there were countless nooks and crannies for anyone to curl up with their book, far from other patrons. Em and Michael began simply chatting, sharing many common grounds. Eventually, they began seeing one another romantically. When they discovered they were pregnant, they were nervous. They welcomed a baby girl, whom they named Wednesday Evelyn! Both Em and Michael were big fans of The Addams Family and Wednesday seemed to fit their little girl just perfect.
Duckie had moved to New York to go to university upon completing high school. He found history to be a fascinating topic and aspired to teach one day, hoping he could maybe be a professor. While there, he met his now husband Wallace. While they couldn't legally marry at this point, where Duckie grew up it was normal for people to celebrate weddings even if not legally applicable and Duckie and Wally wanted that. Especially with the violence that still threatened queer people at the time, it began feeling safer to move back home so they could live authentically. When Duckie had completed his degree, they moved back to Maine. Duckie found a nice university with an opening for him. Duckie and Wally had really wanted to have a child. They had been opened about wanting to have a family to their family, which inspired Betsy to ask Duckie how he felt about the idea of a surrogate. It overjoyed them! Betsy was able to carry Wally's baby, making it feel as if the baby were still part of both parents. They welcomed a little girl whom they named Marlo Amelia!
