Ryder Alphonsus Fiore [7] is the oldest of the Fiore kids, son of Holly and adopted son of Holly's new husband. He is in the second grade and loves to read. He is now reading chapter books and loves the imaginitive tales.

Sutton Claire Pisco (6) is the half-brother of Ryder through his father. Sutton is currently on her ninth foster family, as the girl is a bit of a trouble maker and both parents were addicts and drunks. Sutton loves to read as well and often gets lost in her fairy tale worlds. Sometimes it makes her sad when her friends' parents kiss them goodbye before they come into their kindergarten classroom. There is one girl at school who is being really mean to her and she doesn't know why.

Natalia Jade Vega [6] is in sutton's kindergarten class and is bullying her. She calls Sutton names, and pushes her around. The other kids just laugh and Natalia grins. she is spoiled at home by her father and her mother is very strict and mean, to the family. Natalia is the youngest in the family and has two older siblings whom are 17, and 12.

Adrienne Simone Vega {17} is Natalia Vega's eldest sister, and they also have a 12 year old sister. For Adrienne, their dad is very harsh, expecting a lot out of his first born. Their mom, however, has chosen Adrienne as her favorite child and it is very clear that she has done so. Adrienne is quite mean like Natalia, she has a habit of bullying. She can be controlling over her friends and boyfriend at times. She's so excited to be out of the house and in college in a year, but with her grades it may not happen as she's planning.

Juliet Jordan "Jules" Pacer (17) is one of Adrienne's friends. Jules is used to getting pushed around by her friend. Jules is often sad and wonders why Adrienne hates her so much. Her longtime boyfriend is helping her through and she has finally worked up enough courage to confront Adrienne. Jules loves playing guitar and singing love songs with her boyfriend. He is the closest thing she has to family, as she is a ward of the state, dropped off at a hospital when she was three in a state of mental shock and physically abused. Jules is generally a bright, average kid who has lots of friends. Her thirteenth foster father is a drunk and she is trying to get his biological daughter out of the house along with herself.

Penelope Raven "Penny" Lauder {17} is Jules foster sister. Penny loves modeling, and she's always got a new boyfriend glued to her side. She spends a lot of time at school, she's the captain of the cheer squad, she's on the yearbook team, the prom planning committee, everything. A lot of it she does just so she doesn't have to go home. She loves her mom but her dad gets drunk a lot and is really harsh with her.

Payson Ella Mills (15) is Penny's younger half sister through their father. Penny's mother has no idea that Payson exists. As Payson's mother was an addict that ODed when she was two, Payson is living with an adoptive family. Payson is aware that Penny exists and wants to meet her, but her foster siblings and parents don't think it's a good idea. She sometimes feels a little weird out with her family because she has dark brown curls and they all have straight blonde hair and blue eyes (she has dark brown ones). Everyone is very accepting though and Payson is popular. She is a cheerleader and head of the drama department, which isn't dorky at their school because their shows are often billed as professional.

Sydney Ruth Mills {5} is the youngest adoptive sibling of Payson. She loves being outside and taking pictures, and spends a lot of time in the treehouse her dad built her. She's a daddy's girl for sure, but she loves going to the berry farm and picking fruit with her mom. Syd is a great little sister, she is independent and not clingy. She has a lot of friends in the neighborhood, one of whom she is especially close with.

Amanda Jennifer Mills [43] is the mother of Payson Mills, Sydney Mills and 3 other children ages 13, 13 and 10, all boys. Growing up Amanda was put into foster care at the age of five after her mother died of injuries related to a mugging and no next of kin was found. The young girl spent six years in the system living in group homes and a few foster homes before she was adopted by an elderly couple, Cynthia Ruth Ellison and Theodore Quincy Ellison - who she named her children after, Sydney was named for Cynthia and her sons were named after Theodore-, who had never been able to have children of their own . They loved Amanda and cared of her greatly, supporting her in a way she had not had in years. Amanda had a good childhood after that before going on to be successful in college and get a degree in law where she met her husband who works in business administration. They married when they were both 28  and had their first children, twin boys, two years later and three years after that they welcomed a third son. The pregnancy caused some complications so they decided to adopt their next child and a year after having their youngest son they adopted Payson, who was six years old at the time. The family adored her and felt complete, of course, years later Amanda got pregnant unexpectedly and had Sydney. Amanda was thrilled to welcome another child into their home and to give Payson a younger sister as she felt her daughter felt a little out numbered considering she only had brothers. Recently, Amanda and her husband have grown worried abut Payson wanting to reach out to her half-sister, they think she might be a little too young to handle any heartbreak that may come with it as Amanda had had a bad experience meeting her biological father when she was a teen. Another thing on Amanda and her husband's minds have is they have been thinking about adopting another child, possibly another two, as they feel they have the love and finances to open their home and hearts to more children.

Theo Quinn and Edison Bear Mills {13} are twin sons of Amanda, brothers to Payson and Sydney as well as a ten year old brother who also has straight blonde hair. The boys are named after their adoptive grandfather, Theo Quinn after Theodore Quincy, Edison after Ellison and Bear after Teddy Bear. The boys are pretty popular at school, especially Edison. They are both heavily involved in various extracuricular activities. Edison is the editor in chief of the school's newspaper. Theo is the head of the humanitarian club.

Eric Jason Mills (10) is the little brother of Payson, Edison, and Theo Mills, older brother if Sydney Mills. Eric loves soccer and has since he was very little. His mother thinks it's dangerous, but his father supports him all the way and teaches him moves in the backyard. Eric has a crush on a girl at school and is talking to Payson about it. Payson thinks he should ask her out, but shy Eric isn't so sure.

James Henley Barclay {31}, Caroline Lyric Barclay {28}, and Collins Henley Barclay {9 mo}

 

Caroline Barclay is the schoolteacher of Eric Mills' fifth grade class. She has found a special place helping Eric, she was shy just like him when she was his age, and they bond over a shared love for soccer. She knows he has a crush another little girl in her class, so she often puts them in the same group to give Eric a chance. James is a former professional soccer goalkeeper, he played for the United States' MLS league' FC Dallas. James and Caroline are happily married and they had their first child together nine months ago, Collins.

Aria Jennifer "AJ" Hale (24) is Caroline's little sister. AJ isn't as good as her sister in the game of life and love. She's shy and a bit OCD. She loves riding her bike around town and her best friend is a guy who paints on the street. AJ is jealous of Caroline and James and wishes there was someone out there who loved her that much. AJ's parents are hippie musicians (Caroline's first name was originally going to be Lyric but Lyric Caroline didn't sound as good).

Akito Minata Hantaro [24] is AJ Hale's closest friend. They met in grade school when they were put in the seats next to each other and bonded over being different from the other more traditional family Midwestern kids in the class room. Akito was always shy and kind of nerdy, but he had fantastic fashion taste though Akito never pursued it further as his parents did not approve. Akito's been in love with AJ since they were in junior high, but he does not want to ruin their friendship so he has not said anything. Akito is the youngest in his family. He has three older brothers and two older sisters all with successful jobs in acceptable careers and who are married, with children, to other respectable Asians. Akito is in a sense a blacksheep in his family and his parents are currently trying to right him out by arranging for him to meet a girl who meets their standards: Asian, Ivy League and polite. Though, despite not being married he is successful in his work. Akito was recently hired by Google and is making six figures in his first year, however this is sing issues between him and AJ as she thinks he is selling out. Akito is at a total loss on what to do.

Allison Sabine and Sadie Amerie Chester {22} are twin sisters. Allison works for Google as Akito Hantaro's personal assistant. She's gotten to know him quite well over their time working together, and she considers him a friend. Sadie is actually friends with AJ, they were roomates in college and still hang out. The twins are very different from each other, Allison is like their dad, she keeps her head down and works hard. Sadie is like their mom, she loves having fun and living life for the moment she's in. Because they are so different, they don't get along very well and they argue whenever they are together.

Jacqueline Renee (nee Miranda) Chester [39] is the mother of Sadie and Allison. She has always loved having fun but in highschool she had too much fun and got pregnant when she was a senior about to graduate. Shortly after graduating she gave birth in the summer and wed the father of the twins , the guy she had been dating for a a year and a half. She worked very hard to raise the twins but often left them with their daddy when she had girls night outs every weekend. The twins are her only children and is proud of them.

Bowman James Hugh {12} is the nephew of Jacqueline (via Jacqueline's late older sister), cousin of Sadie and Allison. Bowman's parents died in a car accident when he was seven, leaving him and his then one-year-old brother on their own. Now, he and his brother are twelve and six years old, and they're living with a very sweet couple that took them in. They don't have any other kids, biological or otherwise. They won't ever be adopting the boys because of some legal issues, but they are the boys' legal guardians, and soon they are going to ask the boys if they'd like to call them mom and dad. Bo is very overwhelmed but so excited, he loves being able to play catch in the front yard with his new father-figure, and get to see his little brother play. He's very protective of his brother because of everything they've been through together, and he'd do whatever it takes to keep his brother safe. When they lived on the streets, if they found some food he'd let his brother eat until he was full before Bowman even started eating.

Joshua David Hugh [36] and Kimberly Anne Hugh (nee Farr) [32] are the legal guardians of Bowman and his six yr old brother. They have been married for seven years and have a well established relationship. They enjoy hiking, and value family time. They have family game nights and love to go to the movies. They love the boys as if they were their own. They have no biological children of their own.

They tied the knot a few months ago in Vegas, much to her sister's dismay. Derek is a nature photographer. They are always hiking or canoeing somewhere, and they both love it. Derek and Ashley are trying for kids, and unbeknownst to Derek, Ashley has fallen pregnant! She is so excited and is planning a big announcement.
