Nate decides to ask Kylie whats wrong. After a bit of thinking he decided the best way to ask her is to do just that, ask. It takes him a while to get up the nerve, knowing Kylie can be rather temperamental when her privacy is invaded. but after a few hours he finally asks and for a few minutes Kylie is silent.
Kylie decides to confide in her brother, as she needs someone as sweet and understanding as Nate to talk to. She tells Nate that even though she is only 13, she has a boyfriend, an older boyfriend. This worries Nate very much, so he asks Kylie for more information. Kylie tells him that her boyfriend, Faulkner Andrew Kanne, is pressuring her to do things like sneak out, drink and have "fun". Nate is enraged that someone would ask his sister to do such things and tells Kylie that she MUST tell their parents, but Kylie is afraid they will be angry with her for being with a boy three years older than her who is asking such things from her.
Kylie works up the courage to tell her parents about Faulkner. She tells him what he is trying to get her to do, but she is refusing. She also tells them that she was afraid of telling them about her boyfriend because he is 3 years older than she is. Although Natasha and Caleb are disappointed in the age difference, the are very proud that she was able to come and talk to them. They ask her to not see him anymore since he is trying to pressure into things that she doesn't want to do, not to mention things she shouldn't be doing.
Kylie does as her parent's wish and tell Faulkner that it over and surprisingly, he takes it "well" saying that at least now he can get someone fun to be with. Kylie doesn't care, she is glad to be over with everything, wanting to get back into her normal routine of school and being a kid again without Faulkner hanging over her head. Within a few months though, she meets another handsome boy. He's 14, like she is now and his name is Lucas Lane Lister, but everyone calls him Luca. Kylie thinks he's very nice and they get along well, he even visits her home a time or two. Soon they begin dating and it is much better than when she was with Faulkner. Except she hasn't told her parent's yet.
Since she likes Luca so much, she decides to tell her parents about him. He's not pressuring her into doing anything unsafe, and she feels as if she is mature enough to have a boyfriend. When she tells them, however, they are not supportive and tell her to remember what happened with Faulkner and ask her if she want that to happen again. They tell her that she must break up with him and tell all the kids that they can't date anyone until they're sixteen to avoid what happened to Natasha happening to them. Kylie was the only one dating, but she is devastated as she really likes Luca.
Kylie does as her parents wish, and Luca understands but she begs her parents to rethink their decision. Natasha and Caleb decide to think it over, perhaps they were to rash. Surely they could come up with a compromise.
They tell Kylie No contact what so ever! They think she's too young and it would be better if she waited. A few weeks later A new girl moves to town Carolyn Michelle Lewis from Los Angeles California, Her and Kylie become friends right away and soon enough Kylie confides that she doesn't think its fair that she isn't allowed to see Luca and tells her how much she likes him, Carolyn tells her that she should just sneak their relationship because what her parents don't know can't hurt them.
Kylie decides that she will continue to see Luca at school and that her parents will be none the wiser. All goes well for a few months until Nate catches them kissing after class. Kylie begs Nate to keep it a secret from their parents, saying she loves Luca very much and that he makes her happy. While Nate loves his sister, he is unsure of what to do.
