Hi all, It's Jennifer. I just wanted to ask all of you, do you have any names in the family or that you have heard of that, or names that you consider to be old fashioned names? I just wanted to see all of your posts on this idea. Also, do you think that in these day and timesm, would it be oaky to still use names that are consider old fashioned and do these names have any significance to you? Thanks!

some old fashioned names are actually timeless/ or Classic.

My son's name is Oliver. We chose it for a few reasons - When I student taught in New Zealand, I ran into some cute little Olivers and developed a fondness for it. I love the flowing vowel sounds with the l. I haven't known anyone older with the name, so I don't really think of it as an older person's name, as some do.

i think it's completely appropriate to use these names, they are especially better than the overused trendy cutesy ones today, they still age well. i only wouldn't use them if they had negative nicknames or conotations, the usual.

I do believe there is a difference between old fashioned names and traditonal, classic names. While classic names do indeed date back a couple hundred years ago, they have showed their longevity, and are still popular to this day. I think what makes these names great is that they have what it takes to be popular for such an incredible length of time. Take the name Elizabeth. For the past 128 years, the name Elizabeth has ranked #3 to #26 (The name has certainly been tremendously popular for longer than that, but SSA doesnt have records past 1880). But for a name to be popular for so long, to peak so high and for its lowest position to be #26 it quite an achievement. It has also been a minority of those years that Elizabeth has spent out of the Top 10. So although Elizabeth is an old name, it is far from old fashioned
