My sister's being induced tomorrow, and she's naming her daughter Morrigan nn Morgie, but I'm really struggling with it.

I know how to pronounce Morrigan in my head, but when I actually say it out loud, it comes out weird (my voice and accent have always sounded weird IMO) and then there's the confusion with the similar name Morgan (Yeah, I know that Morgan and Morrigan are actually two different names.  lol  Morgan was originally a surname, which I associate with boys).

Also, when I hear both the full name and nickname, I think of the words "morgue", "mortgage", and a certain other word I don't use, so I have a very hard time picturing Morrigan/Morgie for a real child.  I'm trying to put my feelings aside for my niece's sake, but it's getting more difficult.  Any other nicknames I can possibly call her besides Morgie?

Anyone else ever had those feelings about a family member or friend's name choice for their kids, or still has them?  I feel so awful!

Baby Morrigan is the first grandchild for my mom btw.

As said Morgan is a different name but there is some nickname crossover. I knew a Morgan who went by Mo.

True about the nickname crossover.

I knew a few Morgans nicknamed Mo too.  It's okay.  Mo > Morgie.  lol

Meg? It is quite far-fetched. I just thought, if it is an acceptable nickname for Margaret, could it work for Morrigan? Just an idea.  :)

I actually like Meg as a nickname for Morrigan.  It's a bit of a stretch, but I think it could work.  :)
