lol...I can just imagine a priest giving someone the evil eye...lol. But yeah, I never knew that...I don't pay much attention sometimes, though. But people do seem to like the name more now than they might have before...Oh well, cross Jezebel and Delilah off any list anyone might have. I already crossed Jezebel out in my baby name book...Yes, but most of the public doesn't makes the connection that the Delilah in the song is actually a str_pper. Though I don't know of many church-goers who would feel comfortable naming their daughter that. I can jut imagine the Christening. *shivers* Not a position I'd like to be put in. Th priest would probably give me the Evil Eye.
Oh, and there's Guinevere...The queen of Arthurian legends...I actually like it, but I saw someone did it once in a poll and people kept bringing up the connection to the cheating queen to King Arthur.

Grr! That irritates me to no end. That's only 1 of the versions of the story. Plus, it's chivalric literature! What do people expect? It's all supposed to be about a knight or a bard who falls in love with a married woman above his social station. They all have affairs, get caught by the husband who's been cuckolded, and there's always some sort of duel. Moral is, women shouldn't cheat on their powerful husbands. But these were often marriages that were based on land and title gain, not on love. In the aristocracy, people could have been married by the time they were 7 (generally they didn't move-in together until the girl hit puberty), but still they really didn't have a choice. It's irrational to use the Medieval perspective of a character only known only through legends, when said perspective is highly prejudicial against all women.Oh, and there's Guinevere...people kept bringing up the connection to the cheating queen to King Arthur.

I actually like Avril but could never use it because of the singer. Morgana (and the combo Morgana Fay) is another example - evil Arthurian character. I usually don't mind the evil characters though, sooner or later they end up becoming my favourites! Bizarre much?
I was actually thinking just this morning how much I loved the name Avril, but would never use it because of Avril Lavigne. I really do like Morgana Fay though, it sounds lovely! And don't worry about being bizarre, I've always been a bit of a sucker for the evil characters myself I must have been the only little girl in school who always rooted for the wolf over little Red Riding Hood and/or the three pigs.

Also, one of my favourites would be Lolita.I loved the movie by Kubrick and the book and I know a lovely baby girl nicknamed Lolita (in Brazil younger people barely know about the bad connotations of the name)
