We have two children and have been discussing the possibility of adding a third to the family. With both of my pregnancies, we had a name picked out long before they were born. I have a couple names that I like, but I'm questioning whether or not it would be a good idea to have the kids names end with the same sound? Should we stick with the "V" middle name too?

Our first two:

Quinlan Vincent (5) (boy)

Shaylyn Virginia (3) (girl)

Quin & Shay's middle names are after family members who played a significant role in our lives at some point. Virginia was my grandmother who passed when I was 8, Vincent was my husband's uncle......he helped raise my father-in-law after the death of their father. Both people were very influential in our lives and are the reason we are who we are today.

Keep in mind..... our last name ends with "ski"

First names that I like:

Brooklyn                                                              Gavin

Coralyn                                                                Evan

Emmalyn                                                             Elliott

Sawyer                                                                Lucas

Harper                                                                 Sawyer

Possible middle names:

Elizabeth                                                             Alan/Allen/Allan

Judith                                                                  Ronald

Shelley                                                                Lee

Joyce                                                                  Robert

Leigh                                                                   Wayne

I don't think you would need to continue the V- initial middle name if the middle you pick also has a lot of family/personal significance.  As for the -lyn/lan ending, I don't think it is really a pattern until you have 3 names, so breaking from the matching ending on the third child is okay to me.  I think you should just go with a first name you love, if it ends in -lyn/lan or not.

My favorites from your girl list...Sawyer & perhaps if you like Coralyn "Cora" you might consider dropping the -lyn and just use Cora.

Quinlan, Shaylyn & Sawyer (Quin, Shay & Sawyer): Sawyer Elizabeth, Sawyer Leigh
Quinlan, Shaylan & Cora (Quin, Shay & Cora): Cora Elizabeth, Cora Leigh

My favorites from your boy list...Gavin & Sawyer

Quinlan, Shaylan & Sawyer (Quin, Shay & Sawyer): Sawyer Alan, Sawyer Lee

Quinlan, Shaylan & Gavin (Quin, Shay & Gavin): Gavin Robert, Gavin Wayne

I like that you have honored two very influential people in your lives with your first two children's middle names. I would continue this pattern more so than a "V" named pattern. Each child will have their own special person they can hear stories about and why you picked their names.

From your lists, I like...

Coralyn Judith

Brooklyn Elizabeth or Brooklyn Joyce

Lucas Robert

Gavin Robert

Quinlan Vincent, Shaylyn Virginia and Coralyn Judith (Quin, Shay and Cora)

Quinlan Vincent, Shaylyn Virginia and Brooklyn Elizabeth (Quin, Shay and Brooke)

Quinlan Vincent, Shaylyn Virginia and Brooklyn Joyce (Quin, Shay and Brooke)

Quinlan Vincent, Shaylyn Virginia and Lucas Robert (Quin, Shay and Luke)

Quinlan Vincent, Shaylyn Virginia and Gavin Robert (Quin, Shay and Gavin)

I love the idea /of the two themes/traditions! My mother's and her brother's initials are ASG, and I hope to do something similar with my future children.

My favorite name from your girl list is Coralyn. A couple "V' names you may not have considered for a girl are Victoria and Violet. I favor Victoria, but that's just me.

Brooklyn Victoria

Coralyn Victoria

Emmalyn Victoria

Brooklyn Violet

Coralyn Violet

Emmalyn Violet

Of these, my favorite combonations are Coralyn Victoria and Emmalyn Violet.

If you were to drop the theme, my favorite first name is still Coralyn. For middle names, I'm stuck between Elizabeth and Judith. Of your list, possible combonations are:

Brooklyn Elizabeth

Brooklyn Judith

Brooklyn Joyce

Coralyn Judith

Coralyn Joyce

Emmalyn Judith

Emmalyn Joyce

Emmalyn Leigh

Sawyer Elizabeth

Sawyer Leigh

Harper Elizabeth

Harper Judith

Harper Leigh

Of these, my favorites are Coralyn Judith and Harper Leigh.

When it comes to your boy list, I can think of no other "V" names except Victor, which I don't care for, but you might. If you do, I think it sounds nice with Elliot: Elliot Victor

Of your names, my favorite firsts are Ellliot and Lucas; my favorite middles are Robert and Wayne. Some good combinations are:

Gavin Ronald

Gavin Robert

Gavin Wayne

Evan Robert

Evan Wayne

Elliot Ronald

Elliot Lee

Elliot Wayne

Lucas Allen

Lucas Robert

Lucas Wayne

Sawyer Lee

Sawyer Wayne

Of these my favorites are Elliot Wayne and Lucas Robert.

Sorry for the post. I'm a baby-naming nerd who loves to help others and was given a lot of names to work with. Good luck choosing a name and with Baby #3! Let us know what you pick.
