I'm writing an interpretation of Romeo and Juliet in which I'll be moving the play forward to the 1970s/1980s (haven't decided yet!), and be switching the genders of the roles. This isn't what it sounds like-- I'll literally be switching the characters so that the men will be women and the women will be men. I'll then change plot and lines accordingly in the rewrite. One thing I'm having trouble with are the character names. I'm having trouble switching them over. If anyone had any ideas, I'd love your help. Here's a list of main characters whose names I need help with:
MEN (I need female forms of these)
Romeo
Mercutio
Escalus
Benvolio
Friar Laurence (Who I'll make a nun)
Paris
WOMEN (I need male forms of these)
Juliet
Rosaline
That's really pathetic.... two female characters....
Thanks so much.
Help with names for a Shakespeare adaptation-- PLEASE!!!
