I've recently fallen in love with the name Jace after reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

I'm not sure I like it as a standalone. In the book, Jace is a nickname derived from his initals--J.C., Jonathan Christopher. I've also heard Jace/Jase as a nickname for Jason, which I don't really like.

Rolling with the initals idea, I've come up with...

John Carter "Jace"

This combo is made better because, as a fan of honoring names, I use them as often as I can. John was the first name of my grandpa, who was called Jack, as well as the middle name of my brother and a few cousins. I love the idea of taking a new spin on  family name.

Also, I've always loved Carter, though as it became popular I shied away from using it as a first. and I finally have an opportunity to use it. I'm not completely set on Carter, but I'm having trouble finding other C names I like. I was toying around with John Caspar also, but I don't like the sound quite as much as John Carter.

So, what do you think of Jace and this combo? Any alternate suggestions?

I like Jace, but it is totally gelled in my head with Teen Mom.

Love the name Jace/Jase. John Carter is a really nice combo. There are so many "C" names you could consider. Are there any in your family? Even generations back?

Some I think flow well...

John Callahan
John Calvin
John Cannon
John Cedric
John Chandler
John Christian
John Christopher
John Cillian
John Clayton
John Cohen
John Collin
John Connor
John Cooper
John Corrigan

I LOVE Jace too... but since my fn is Grace, it would get confusing around the house :)

I do really like the JC initial idea though! John Carter is very handsome and the nn is a cool twist on the family names.

The only C name I know of is Charles, which 1) I don't really like and 2) has been used on a few younger cousins. I really like a bunch of your suggestions, but I think John Carter is still my favorite at the moment. Also, on the off chance my future DH's last name starts with C, I wouldn't necessarily need to have his middle initial be C (though it would be cool if I used A, and his initials were JAC).

Thanks to everyone for your feedback!

I think John Carter "Jace" is a great name.  My only comment would be association with the movie/comic book character by the same name...John Carter.  But since he would go by Jace, I don't see this coming up much. And what little boy wouldn't want to be named after a comic book character? :)  And since both are honoring names, you can get away with it.

Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it as much as I do! :) I was unaware of the connotation (which happens a lot) but that's actually kind of cool, as you pointed out. Carter isn't actually an honoring name, just one I've liked for a while, but I've always known I wanted to use John or Jack to honor my grandpa. Regardless, I'm starting to like this combo more and more.

I love the name Jace, it's but youngest brothers name! The only downfall is we get a lot of comments about how much my mom must like teen mom ect. But it may be a different situation where you're at!! Lots of ignorant people around here!

Jace Anthony - Jace Micheal - Jase DeShawn

Three girls from my high school have named their sons Jace/Jase.

Two of which had their boys while in high school...I think there was also a girl on the t.v. show 'Teen Mom' who named her kid Jace/Jase.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. To be honest, the Teen Mom association is really starting to bother me, as well as the fact that Jace, which I had thought to be somewhat uncommon, is actually in the top 100 for the past few years. It'll stay on my list for now, but it is no longer my favorite.
