I want to be an author one day, so my fingers are crossed. I also enjoy dance and hanging out with my friends.

My head is soon going to explode with all the stories I'm trying to take on, but I don't really mind.
So what I'm looking for today are names you find commonly in the South.
I don't just want Annabelle or Clara or Scarlett. I want deeper, more Southern names. Names you might find in Texas or maybe Georgia.
I also need last names and boy names, so if you could take the time, please give me a few suggestions for each.
Thank you, you wonderful, smart people! Thank you.

:D

I know a lot of people (as I do live in the South --- Georgia) that use a maiden of the mother or other female family member to name either boy/girl! You could use this and pick some Southern last names to name them, especially for the boys!

Here are some suggestions:

Mabel*
Arnette
Carlene
June
Dixie
Claudell*
Cordelia
Daisy
Darlene

Boy:

Last Names - To use as first names or last name
Bedford
Buford
Claiborne

Mae, Jean, Lou, Faye, Lynn and Ann/Anne are probably the most common Southern middle names!

Hope these help! Please let me know if you like any!

I think JMC1988 got, like, all of them, but on my personal opinion, I think these names sound southern (though, it may just be me, lol)/some I got from a website:
Gals:
Kathryn/Katherine nn Katie or Kate
Jo/Joanne/Joanna
Hallie
Anne/Anna
Belle/Bella
Emma/Emma-Kate (or most names with a hyphen between)
Elizabeth
Georgia
Jolene
Hannah
Savannah
Caroline
Daisy
Peggy Sue
Scarlett
Virginia
Lorette/Loretta
Cheyenne (name of a country movie my grandpa likes, lol)
Christine

For a boy:
Jose
Juan
Luis
Andrew nn Andy
Matthew nn Matt (maybe...)
Tyler
Beau
Blake
Brett
Clay
Sawyer
Thomas nn Tom
Jackson
John
Luke/Lucas
Mark
(My brother-in-law says biblical names would probubly be very southern, too).

As for last names.... no clue, but I've always thought my last name (Taylor) sounded southern. Good luck with it!

Though, you live in Texas, don't you, lol? Or do you mean olden-time southern names?

I live in the south, North Carolina to be exact. My family is split between White and Cherokee/Lakota Sioux Indians. My family consists of Williams, Davids, Johns, and a LOT of people named Thomas. MY whole family comes from Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina, so it doesn't sound too much like what your looking for, which is more south-central/west, since you used the state of Texas as an example. My parents lived in Texas for a while, and I've came u with deep south surnames:

  • Sizemore
  • Harris
  • Perry (To make it sound more southern, to me at least, would use the name "Jim" as the first name to this surname)
  • Royster
  • Hill
  • Begay (Surname derived from Navajo Nation, southwest surname of someone with Navajo ancestry)
  • Thorpe
  • Conley
  • Calhoun

Boy Names:

  • John
  • Cooper
  • Aaron
  • Django
  • Adam
  • Thomas
  • Jacob
  • Peter
  • Jim
  • Duke
  • John
  • Hank
  • Dale
  • Merrill
  • Graham
  • Lewis/Louis
  • Luis
  • Johnathan
  • Owen
  • William

As a Southern, let me tell you two trends youre really going to want to use:

1. Double names for both genders
Examples:
(girl) Mary Delaney, Anna Ryan, Hannah Grace, Abi Beth
(boy) Jon Brent, John Robert

2. The mothers maiden name as the childs first name
Examples: Caldwell (nickname Cally for girl), Hudson, Brewer, Bryson, Braxton, Everett, Tucker, Bailey, Campbell, Davis, Dawson, etc.
