Hey guys,

I've never done this before (but then again I've never had problems finding names for my characters before), so bare with me if I'm doing this all wrong!

I write online, and I plan to write a new book. Obviously, I'm having problems finding and deciding on names. It just seems like character names aren't really shouting 'WOW! YOU MUST USE ME BECAUSE I'M AWESOME' to me anymore, and the ones that are have already been taken by other authors.

I won't use a name unless it really REALLY appeals to me, but I think my pickiness is becoming a bit too much. So, I came here to see if I can get any cool suggestions and opinions!!

To all that reply to this, first of all: thank you

My main character is a girl, around 17-18, who is quiet, shy, extremely intelligent but troubled. She's in a pretty bad relationship with her boyfriend, who is abusive, but can't get out of it. I considered the names Laily, Boheme, Celia, Alice and Cassandra, but none of them really fit her. Her last name will be Hayes and she'll have strawberry blonde hair that's more strawberry than blonde and blue eyes. I don't want any common names for her, but I'm not into really crazy earthy/hippy names either. Something in the middle.

She will have a little sister called Lily-Rose (hyphen or no hyphen?). The abusive boyfriend's name will be Gage Saunders.

Another character I need a name for is her love interest (what's a romance story without a hot guy, after all?). His last name will be Cooper, and he will have dark hair and eyes. I'm considering him being mixed raced. He'll be a dark soul, very secretive and mysterious, with a mischievous streak that brings out his inner child. I considered the name Deacon, but then my ma said that it reminded her of beacon and ruined it for me. I don't want his name to be something really popular (like Aiden or Luke), but not yuck like Ernest or something.

Boy's names: Cameron (Cam), Eric, Jakob, Jack, Nathaniel (Nate), Gabriel (Gabe), Lucian (Luke), etc.

You should use Zena for the girl. Because it's an awesome name, and an awesome person's name. aka me. ;D

I personally think Deacon is great. And you could actually play on the similarity to beacon (guiding light) if he can get her to leave Gage (the dark).
As for the main character maybe Katerina or Katrina, Layla, Anastasia "Stasia".

Jessye, Jai, Reyna, Lissie, Lila, Maybella, Cameron, Cassidy, Neldon? Damai, Ellie, Eden, Evelina, Angeline, Lina, Elaine? Levinna? Some of those are boy name that aren't typically uni-sex but might work? Hope hat helped for the mc

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Sorry I couldn't reply sooner- I'm on holiday, and only just got hold of a computer.

I'm going to use Lily Rose without the hyphen. Should there be a middle name, or is it okay just like that (Lily Rose Hayes)?

For the main character, I'm thinking:

- Summer
- Lila (too common? Too close to Lily Rose?)
- Lina, but I prefer this as a nickname (maybe Alina?). Suggestions for a full one?
- Maia
- Katia nn Kitty
- Zoe
- Joani(e) (thanks to the person who suggested this name- it's sooo cute!)
- Maria
- Sahara- it grows on you the more you think about it
- Rosalyn
- Jessamine nn Jessa
- Cassandra/Cassia

I also love Sofia/Sophie/Sofie but that's my sister's name so I can't use it.

For the guy:

- Dimitri
- Deacon (that suggestion about light and dark pretty much sold me ^.^)
- Lewis
- Thane
- Nathaniel
- Nicholas (Nico)

Deacon Nathaniel Cooper sounds good together, but could be a mouthful all at once. It just depends on your fancy.

For your girls

Lily Rose Hayes is a beautiful name

As for your main character

I do love Joanie, it has some sort of an edge to it and also flows nicely with Hayes.

If you want a middle name for Joanie I would suggest a one syllable name to make the name roll off the tongue.
Personally I like

Joanie Elle
Joanie Bae (pronounced bay)

or something like that.

But if you really like Lila, it kinda works with Joanie too.

I really like Joani(e) & Zoe for the main character. I think both go nicely with sister Lily Rose.

And I also think Deacon is just perfect for the guy.

Though I love Joanie, she just didn't seem to fit for the main character when I started writing. So now the MC's best friend's name will be Joanie Adele Lawrence

The sister's name will be Lily Rose Hayes.

The guy's name will be Deacon Nicholas Cooper <3

And the main character's name will be Summer Gwendolyn Hayes- shout out to the person who recommended Gwendolyn. I chose Summer in the end cause I couldn't decide after Joanie so I asked my little sister (she's 5) and she said Summer so... The MC will be Summer
