So Im pregnant and we like the boy name Orrin. But we have a nephew whose name is Owen. Im worried the names sound to similar, like if I yell out the name for the kids to come in to the room is Owen gonna answer me.my family all insist the name is not too similar but I have reservations, I need and unbiased opinion. Thanks.

I understand your concerns and reservations, but I don't believe the names are too similar. However, if you still have reservations that if you call for Orrin, Owen will answer, you could try the name Thorin. That is a character from the Lord of the Rings series though. I believe Orrin and Owen are perfectly fine as names for cousins.

Orrin and Owen are completely fine. Especially given that none of your family will be angry, and you won't be sacrificing any relationships, I would say that Orrin and Owen will be okay together.

I think they will sound similar when calling them. They both start with an O and end with an N. I think the real question is: is that a situation that would make you change the name you really like? Are you with your family a lot?

Another option, if you are worried, is the name Orson - I think the S in there really removes the Owen/Orrin confusion.

Thanks for all the advice and help! I feel much better about it and all the kids and family already had been calling him Orrin
