I know from experience that it's a very bad idea. You may think it's okay but it's not. Nick names should not be needed to mask a real name that is gender specific. Don't make this decision for someone else when you don't know what it's like. It is not true that any name can be used for both genders. If you're child wants a name widely known by everyone for another gender then let them decide when they get older. Being a male growing up with a name designated for females was pure hell. I know this from first hand experience.

I mean, I know that Michael can be used for a girl's name. The Bates Family did it. Their oldest daughter is named Michael, but I believe I've read that she goes by Michaella instead of Michael. But I personally would not use it for a girl. It's very masculine and it's never made sense to me for names like Michael to be used on girls and names like Kelly and Leslie to be used for boys. In the end, it's ultimately whether or not you would want to name your daughter Michael if you were considering it.

Simple answer is no. Try Michelle instead. Especially since it's the female version of Michael and of course has the same meaning.

Respectfully no. I was friends with a girl named Michae though. There is a reason the name Michelle is usually known for being the female version of the name Michael. Or I had a little girl in my child development 2 daycare class named Mikey short for Mikaela.
