I really love the name Caroline (for a girl, just to clarify). What is the meaning of the name Caroline? According to Nameberry, Caroline means "free man". Is that the most accurate meaning? I don't understand how it could mean anything to do with a man since it isn't unisex. Would the meaning be a problem? What do you think of Caroline? Do you prefer it as a first or middle name? If I used it as a first name, I like Caroline Joy (nickname Callie). What do you think of that combo? If I were to use it as a middle, I really like Everly Caroline. What do you think of that combo? Thank you! Also, don't feel like you have to answer every question. I know it's a lot to ask, so just answer certain questions. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Thanks Barbie! I also like Aubrey Caroline. How is Caroline a form of Charles, lol? I could see Charlotte (obviously) being a form of Charles, but ot Caroline. :-)

Caroline Joy is lovely. I personally prefer the nickname Carly to Callie; the latter seems a little too trendy for such a classic name like Caroline. Everly Caroline is nice as well, but the combo seems a little long. How do you like these alternatives?
Eve Caroline
Eva Caroline
Ella Caroline
Emma Caroline
Hadley Caroline
Harper Caroline
Isla Caroline
Piper Caroline
Anna Caroline
Ava Caroline
Lucy Caroline
Ruby Caroline

I don't think name meaning matters. I never look at name meanings, personally. I love Caroline, and would use it as either, as I love it. And a lot of names derive from others over time, anyway.

I love Caroline! My favorite combos are Caroline Joyce and Caroline Grace Elizabeth. Callie works perfectly as a nickname!

@ Meghan: Do you mean Everly Caroline is long length-wise or syllable wise? I noticed all the names you suggested were 1 or 2 syllables, but there were a few names that are just as long as Everly. I would call her Evie (pronounced Ev, as in EVan, ee, as in wheeee. :-) And thanks for the suggestions, but I just really love the combo Everly Caroline at the moment. If I change my mind, I'll refer back to your suggestions because I like them, just not love... for now. I could change my mind though.
Thanks for the opinions everyone!! :-)

Sorry for any confusion! I meant syllables, since both Everly and Caroline are 3 syllables long. Everly Caroline is still a nice combo though.

Wow, thanks for that so much, Sunny Mommy. I loved hearing about the history of Caroline. I don't think the meaning is super important since Caroline is so feminine. And the nickname Callie, or even Carly would make it even more so. Thank ya! :-)

Meaning is important to me also but it's not a deal breaker. Caroline Joy is really wonderful! I personally like CJ as a nickname esp. if she turns out to be a tomboy!
