Everything is going smoothly for the Davenport family, but there's just one small addition! One day, when William was out grocery shopping, there was a woman outside the store with a box of kittens. William impulsively chose to take home a little calico and, of course, nobody can be mad about a kitten, so he was accepted warmly into the home.

Not too long after Matthew moves in with the Calvins, he and Ari secretly begin dating. Nobody is any the wiser until Ari becomes pregnant and they have to come clean. Georgia and Robert are upset, but they support Ari's decision to keep the baby. Matthew is still working full-time, so he is able help support her financially. When their son arrives, they choose a surname as a first name, and decide to honor both Ari's father and the baby's father by making the middle name Matthew or a variant of it.
