I hate to be the sarcastic ray of sunshine here but, according to a census I just skimmed, Paulina actually reached its peak of popularity in about 2000 and has consistently been in the top 1000 names for several years now.
That being said, I'm sorry you feel that way because I think it's an adorable name for a little girl.

Names from this century? Easy. Take any name you like, replace vowels with y's and add a couple of h's and n's for easy spelling's sake.
Or, names from past centuries are quite used too. 20th century names such as Amber and Mason are in. One of the qualities that makes a name a good name is its timelessness.

Well Paulina is from this century and many others. As Kate has said a good quality of a name is timelessness. If you want a name that is from this century why not Zaytyinn, Kaedynn, Rigley Fields, etc.

I don't know many Paulina's, but I totally see the appeal of it, and I have heard of Paulinas as well.

Yeah it's not really my type either. It sounds old fashioned to me.
