This may sound funny, but my favorite place to peruse baby names is provided by the Social Security Administration. Every May, they post a list of the past year's 1,000 top baby names. Their list is based on all the Social Security applications submitted over the past year. In addition, you can research the top 1,000 names for each decade back to 1880! Prior to 1936, when Social Security cards were first issued, the data must come from census data. It's the best place to check out a name's popularity and pick up names I hadn't thought of. The Social Security website is pretty good, but I really like BabyCenter.com the best. It shows top 100 names of boys and girls, and they already have the 2007 stats up. An added bonus is that you can look up the popular names in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. This is always a bonus if you're often visiting the UK or if you're looking for a few names that might be a bit different, without going too over the top. I also like BabyNamesWorld.com and ThinkBabyNames.com because they'll show where particular names are popular and the history of a name's popularity.

Thanks for the suggestions! The web has a lot of resources for baby naming. Sure wish I had an excuse for traveling to the UK (or anywhere internationally) very often! With four little kids, we probably won't be going very far for awhile.

Well, my dad still lives in England, so we only see him once a year. I'm not looking forward to the Credit Card bills once we have our family to tote back and forth during the summer or winter holidays. As it is, I cringe when I see a the cost of a round trip ticket for just for me.
I'm glad you found the sites helpful.

My favourite websites are BehindTheName - great if you want to know more about the origin of a name, and it also has got popularity charts from various countries, and Nymbler, which gives you several names based on your 'style', which is, the names you pick as 'inspirations'. Really fun

I like this site for polls and the community.
I like www.babynames.com I have a list on there and there's a lot of names there.
http://www.babynamesgarden.com/ Although they do lack a few names...but you can click and put them in as a suggestion if it's not there. They have different lists of names you can look through.

One of my favorites is www.babynamer.com -- the database is pretty impressive and it gives you a lot of facts about the name: similar ones, alternate spellings, potential nicknames and drawbacks, and even audio of most pronunciations.
