The two lists are actually quite different. Amelia/Emilia is number one on the first list and is 57 on the other list. These probably aren't 100% accurate but they do seem to follow the trends for the most part. I agree with Jessica, they have changed quite a bit since last year....Jacob got knocked down several spots to Aiden, which isn't really all that surprising. Most of the names are pretty predictable i.e. Isabella, Madison, Jackson, Ethan, etc. etc. etc.
Some of the names I actually like...
Lila(h) jumped up it seems...it wasn't that popular when I had my Lilah. Same with Caleb...it was pretty high this year! Hmm naming trends are so strange.

Baby name trends are very interesting to me.
I love the names Aiden, Jacob, Liam, Oliver, Emma, Sophia, Ava, Olivia.... but I loved all those
names before I started looking at top name lists. Then I was surprised and dissapointed.
So..do we start to like names because they are so popular and we hear them so often?
Or do we stop using them because they are so popular, and therefore they begin to decline in
popularity....
it's like what came first, the chicken or the egg?

I think your decline theory is correct. Names get super popular so people don't use them any more and find new names that then in turn become really popular.
I don't like most of the trendy/popular names right now...but I think it's because they are popular. If Emma and Ava weren't at the top of the list, I would love/use them. That is why I tend to like more classic/timeless names.

hmm Nathaniel is the 86th on the babycenter.com list and 45th on the babynames.com list. Big difference, but I see some names are very popular. Simon is nowhere but i dont care. I use the names i love and i think everyone do this and popular names popular because they sounds trendy, youthful and easy to pronounce them. thats my opinion.
