We won't know the gender until the baby is born, so we are trying to prepare for either. We like strong names that don't conjure up ethnicity or gender without having met the child. We're not fans of anything that would require us to have to deliberately spell it or pronounce the name properly so that someone else will spell/say the name correctly (what a headache!). We strongly prefer presidential names (not just the president's first names), i.e Lincoln Kennedy is one we've been tossing around.

I'm excited to see what you create! Please be sure to indicate if it is a girl or boy name. As for Lincoln Kennedy (nickname Linc), we like it for either gender.

Congratulations! :) I really like the name Lincoln, but it is a little too masculine for a girl, imo. Are there any other themes or names you like?

Here's a short list of some possible combinations using my favorite presidential names:

Boys:

Lincoln Hayes nn Linc

Taylor Pierce

Kennedy Andrew

Mckinley Grant nn Mick/Mickey

Girls:

Mckinley Taylor nn Kinley

Reagan Monroe

Taylor Madison

Madison Kennedy

Madison Monroe

My favorites are in bold! Hope this helps! :)

I looove the name Lincoln, I'd totally love to use it one day if SO didn't dislike it so much :( Boo. However, I do find it a very masculine name <3 If you want a name that people wont immediately think of a ethnicity / gender, Lincoln isn't your name. There were 2,882 male Lincolns born in the USA in 2012.

Kennedy definitely works well either way though! :) Very cute.

There are a couple other presidential names that work very well for either gender (and don't necessarily feel gender specific): Madison, Monroe, Taylor, Mckinley, and Reagan. Hayes could possibly go either way. I love Jackson, Wilson, and Carter but they definitely feel very masculine and will conjure up a male to a strangers mind. Other presidential names are: Truman, Ford, Roosevelt, Tyler, Jefferson, Harrison, Grant, and Clinton. Again, all masculine.

Here are some names generally deemed as unisex: Alex / Alexis, Avery, Bailey, Cameron, Casey, Charlie, Dakota, Devon, Drew, Ellery / Ellington / Ellis, Emerson / Emery, Harley, Hayden, Jordan, Justice, Kendall, Lane, Payton, Phoenix, Quinn, Reese, Riley, River, Rory, and Sam.

Good luck and hope this helps!

I agree that Lincoln is a little too masculine sounding to me.  Nevertheless, I think Lincoln "Linc" is really cute for a boy!

Here are some presidential-inspired (or first lady inspired) name suggestions:

Boys

Abraham / Abram

Adam

Andrew

Arthur

Benjamin

Carter

Ford

Franklin

George (Georgia for a girl?)

Grant

Harrison

Hayes

Henry

Jackson

James

Jefferson

Knox

John

Lyndon (/ Linden)

Monroe

Pierce

Theodore (Theodora for a girl?)

Thomas

Truman

Tyler

Walker

Warren

William

Wilson

Zachary

Girls

Abigail

Anna

Caroline

Catherine

Edith

Eleanor

Eliza

Elizabeth

Florence

Frances
Grace

Hannah

Harriet

Helen

Ida

Jacqueline

Jane

Julia

Laura

Louisa

Lucy

Madison

Mamie

Margaret

Martha

Mary

McKinley

Monroe

Rachel

Reagan

Rosalynn

Sarah

Taylor

Since you mentioned you like more unisex names, I've bolded the ones I think could work for either gender.  Maybe you could look into other surname or occupational names, which often have that strong, solid, gender-ambiguous feel similar to that of a presidential name.  Examples include:

Harper

Abbott

Bishop

Cooper

Hunter

Sawyer

Smith

Archer

Parker

Tanner

Tucker

Marley

Ellison

Elliot

Bailey

Fletcher

Mason

Brooke / Brooks

Darcy

Brady

Porter

Thatcher

Slater

Piper

Paige

Declan

Hope this helps!

Ladies-

Thank you for the suggestions- I love them! I'm a really big fan of a few you suggested: Monroe (for a girl), McKinley, Reagan, and Hayes. I would love Taylor, but Ms. Swift has kinda "ruined" it for me lol. Thank you again for the inspiration to keep plugging away til we find something we absolutely love!

Just a quick question: Do you like Word Names at all? If you do then a few which work nicely for either gender and have a very Patriotic feel to them are:

Justice
Promise
Peace
Loyal

Just a thought! :)
