Create a Historical Family

You must choose a historical era (i.e Ancient Rome, Biblical, Colonial, etc) and create a family from that time period.
One birth must be multiples.
You will not have name banks to choose from because the names you choose will need to be relevant to the culture and time period you choose.
You may add stories, pictures, and extra things like servants and pets (depending on your time period).

(Note: In Roman times, the daughters were all given the same name—the feminine form of their father’s nomen. Words like Secunda (second) and Tertia (third) were added to their names so they could be distinguished. That is why all the daughters have the same name)
Quintus and Aemilia had an arranged marriage like many Roman couple of their time. They were married when Quintus was 17 and Aemilia was 14.
Father: Quintus Iulius Iucundus (45)
Quintus is a wealthy magistrate. He is very harsh and serious and very much in charge of his family. He is getting on in years (the Romans did not live nearly as long as people this day in age). He has many health problems and since he is wealthy, he is able to obtain herbal medicines from an apothecary.
Mother: Aemilia (42)
Aemilia is a very spoilt woman who rarely ever lifts a finger for herself. She relies on her many slave girls who take care of her and her many children.
Aemilia is also suffering from health problems, especially dental problems, as she ages.
The couple became pregnant almost immediately and hoped for a much wanted son, as males were favored over females in ancient Roman times. To their disappointment, they gave birth to girl. She was given the name Iulia, derived from Quintus’s nomen, Iulius.
Daughter: Iulia (28)
Iulia is now 28 years old and was married to a banker, Gaius Marcellus Geminus, at only age 13. The marriage was arranged by her father. Gaius and Iulia have one daughter, Marcella. They have tried for more children but they all have resulted in miscarriage
Daughter: Marcella (15)
Marcella is a quiet girl. Being an only child, she has learnt to entertain herself. Her parents are currently looking for man for her to marry, seeing as she is already 15 years old.

Son: Marcus Iulius Iucundus (26)
Marcus has always had a will of his own and when he met a Greek girl, Lydia, and fell in love, he was determined to marry her despite his father’s protests.
They currently have one daughter and Lydia is pregnant with their second child.
Daughter: Iulia (Pulchra) (10)
Iulia is Marcus and Lydia's daughter’s given name—as is tradition, but she goes by Pulchra (meaning pretty) because of beauty. Pulchra is very studious and can read and write and both Greek and Latin, even though most Roman girls never had the opportunity to learn these things.
With their wish for a boy fulfilled, Quintus and Aemilia had no reason to continue trying for children. But nonetheless, Aemilia became pregnant almost ten years after Marcus’s birth.
Daughter: Iulia Secunda (17)
Secunda is very quiet girl. She was widowed less than a year ago when her husband, Caius Flavius Lupus, died from an unknown illness. She just gave birth to her first son, Caius Flavius Lupus, named for his father.
Only three years after Secunda’s birth, Aemilia discovered she was pregnant again, this time with fraternal twin girls.
Daughters: Iulia Tertia and Iulia Quarta(14)
Tertia and Quarta are both very active and adventurous girls, much to their mother’s displeasure. Their father is currently trying to find husbands for the two girls.

Hadassah (36)
Hadassah is a Jewish slave woman who’s primary job is to care for the children. She is a very kind woman whom the children look to as mother even more so than Aemelia.
Nastasen (18)
Nastasen, an Ethiopian slave boy, is the newest slave. He does a lot the physical labor around the estate, like repairing damages and tending to the garden.
He is “married” to Nubia, the female Nubian slave girl.
Nubia (14)
Nubia is named for the country she came from. Her real name is Shepenwepet, but it was changed when she was taken into captivity at age 5—she has been with the Julian family ever since. She mainly cooks and cleans for the family. She fell in love and “married” Nastasen two years ago shortly after he arrived in Italy.
Baby: Shepenwepet
Shepenwepet is Nastasen and Nubia's 2 year old daughter. When she gets older, she will assume the same responsibilities as he parents and become a household slave.

DH: Edmund (48)
DW: Dorothy (44)
Dorothy and Edmund are in the upper class of the peasant population during the early renaissance period. Dorothy and Edmund were friends from birth and were luckily matched by their fathers to be married. Although it was awkward at first because they had been friends for so long it wasn't long before they realized it wasn't just a friendship. They fell in love.
DS: George (died 4 months)
Married at 14 and 18, Ed and Dory did not realize they were in love for a couple more months. With their new love came the wanting of a baby that was both of them. They tried for awhile and soon Dorothy was nine months along. The baby was born in good health but it only went downhill from there. George died from a cold that wouldn't have even bothered an adult.
DS: Matthew (27)
Although their parents were both urging the couple to conceive again Ed and Dory were still devastated by the death of their first boy. But soon enough they found themselves pregnant without trying to be. With the help of her older sister and her mother Dory delivered a healthy but small baby boy. Matthew is now 27 and has been married to Jane since he was 15 and she was 14. They have a eight year old daughter, Margery, and a four year old son, Walter.
DS: Nicholas (26)
Only six months later Dory was pregnant again and completely fatigued. As much as Edmund wanted to stay home and help out Dory with Matthew he had to work hard to keep the family's new house for their expanding family. The tiredness effected her pregnancy and dreadfully she went into labour four weeks early. Even though the baby was small, he survived with the help of the village doctor. Nicholas married seven years ago after spending the prime marriage years taking care of his neighboour, Anne who was on her death bed. Miraculously she made it and he married her shortly after her recovery. After two infant death they miraculously have tiwns, John and Agnes who are four. They have tried for another baby but the doctor suspects Anne's illness has effected her bodily functions.
DS: James (22)
With two young boys Ed and Dory were not planning to have another kid for a while and maybe not even have another one since they already got the boys they wanted. But they were perfectly fine when Dorothy noticed another pregnancy when Nick was a little older than three. The pregnancy was rocky and there was one point when the village remediest thought neither mother nor unborn baby would make it. But they did and James was born after being carried to full term. He grew up with two older brothers as mentors into a fine man. He married his betrothed, Lizzie, three years ago and they have one baby boy: Humphrey, after a baby girl of theirs died from an illness.

A perfect pregnancy turned into tragedy when there was nothing the doctor could do for the Hammonds first girl.
DD: Mary-Grace (19)
But the lord blessed them less then 18 months later when Dorothy delivered a perfectly healthy girl, a Hammond first. It wasn't until Dorothy was left alone with four children that she realized she was going to have to gear up. She was still exhausted and in pain from her labour but Edmund had to work. By perservering Mary grew up into a beautiful, lovely girl who married the love of her life, who coincedently was appropriate in her father's eyes, at only thirteen. Both William and Mary both wanted to have children with each other and ten months after the wedding Mary was ripe with a baby and stuck in her bed. The labour was extremely long, lasting 21 hours but the hardwork paid off when Will had his baby boy, Henry. Today they have two other children: Alice and Margaret, and are expecting their fourth.
DD: Joan (14)
It wasn't uncommon to have a big family in the Hammonds village and it was something that Edmund and Dory both really wanted so when they felt ready they started to try again. But Dory suffered four miscarriages before she gave birth to Joan. Because of all her miscarriages Dory was not fully committed to Joan, still sulking in her sadness, Joan got sick shortly after five months and when she was close to death it all clicked for Dorothy. This was her child and she loved her deeply. Though Joan never heard anything about the first five months, Dory still feels extremely guilty and thus Joan is the most spoiled. Joan has yet to marry but she is perfectly fine with being free and being able to have no worries about feeding a husband or becoming pregnant.
DS/DS: Unnamed
Born a month early, these two boys did not live through the night. Devastating as it was Ed and Dory kept trying.
DD: Elinor (died at two)
Perfectly healthy and growing great Dory was ecsatic about having another little girl but tragically she fell off the back of the family's wagon and hit her head. The family and doctor tried to nurse her back to health but it was hopeless. Dory had lost another baby. The blow was hard and made Dory think that maybe it was time to stop with babies and just be happy with her children who were at the time of Ellie's death: 19, 18, 14, 11, 5 and a half.

DH: Thomas Stuart Bainbridge [54]
DW: Margaret Anna Fitzhugh Bainbridge "Maggie" [42]
Thomas Bainbridge is the owner of Oak Hill, a large cotton plantation in Georgia. He is not particularly interested in politics, but the current climate of disagreement between the Northern and Southern states troubles him somewhat. He hopes that the politicians can work out the differences between the states before they lead to war.
When he was 29 years old, Thomas married 17 year old Margaret Anna Fitzhugh, the daughter of another local planter. Despite their age difference, Thomas and Maggie are very well suited to each other. They have six living children.
DS: Robert Fitzhugh [24]
Rob is the oldest of the Bainbridge children, born just ten months after his parents got married. Rob is a sucessful lawyer, and is planning to run for Congress. He will inherit Oak Hill when his father dies, but he worries that with the current policitical climate, things may be very different for him than they were for his father. Rob is married to Flora Jane Anderson, and they have a three year old daughter, Laura Isabelle Bainbridge, and an infant son, Nathan Anderson Bainbridge.
DS: James Stephen [23]
James was born one year after Rob. He is the black sheep of the family, enjoying gambling, drinking, and the company of disreputable women. He is engaged to Julia Elizabeth Hamilton, and has seemed to have calmed down a bit since he met her.
DD: Sarah Grace (died in at age three, would be 21)
Thomas and Maggie's third child was a baby girl. The Bainbridges were delighted to have a little girl, and Sarah proved to be a happy and energetic child. One day when she was playing with her brothers, three year old Sarah fell into the mill pond. She was quickly rescued from drowning, but fell ill with pnemonia a few days later. There was nothing the doctors could do to save little Sarah, and she died two months shy of her fourth birthday. Maggie and Thomas were devastated at the loss of their little girl.
DD/DD: Eleanor Mary "Ellie"/ Rachel Caroline [17]
One year after Sarah died, Maggie found herself pregnant again. She gave birth to twin girls, Eleanor, whom everybody calls Ellie, and Rachel. Ellie is one of the prettiest and most popular belles around, and always has plenty of dance partners at parties. She has had at least a dozen suitors, and has recently accepted the marriage proposal of Charles Lee Kennedy.
Rachel is a bit more shy and reserved than her twin. She is in love with Samuel John Franklin, the minister's son, but hasn't yet worked up the nerve to tell him how she feels.
DS: William Andrew "Will" [14]
Will is two years younger than Rachel. He dreams of being in the military when he is older, and hopes to get an appointment to West Point in a couple of years.
DS: George Edward (died in infancy, would be 12]
The Bainbridges fourth son was born healthy, but he became sick with fever and died when he was just five months old. Both of the Bainbridges, but Maggie especially, were devasted by the death of another child.
DD: Virginia Cathleen "Ginny" [6]
Nearly six years after George's death, the Bainbridges were shocked to find they were expecting another child. The unexpected baby, Ginny, is now six years old and the darling of the family. She is somewhat spoiled by everybody in the family, but her father in particular.

Alfred Courtland was two years old when Agnes Pollock was born. The Pollock family and the Courtland family lived on the same street and were very close. Alfred and his three older siblings (one brother, two sisters) were very excited when Martha Pollock gave birth to the first girl in the Pollock family after three boys. When Agnes turned fifteen, Alfred's older brother, Samuel, developed a slightly unhealthy attraction to Aggie. In the winter of 1869 his attraction turned violent when at a winter ball he took complete advantage of Agnes. When Samuel and Alfred's father found out he sent Samuel away, but the damage was done; Agnes Julia Pollock was pregnant. Looking for a solution, the Pollocks and Courtlands decided to marry Alfred and Agnes in an attempt to cover up the scandal.
On March 29, 1869 Alfred and Agnes were married in a small ceremony with just close friends and family. Eight months later Charlie Raymond Courtland was born to the young couple but he did not make it through two nights. Agnes, who had always dreamed of travelling to America saw this as the perfect excuse to divorce Alfred and leave, but her mother would not have it. Instead Martha Pollock and Elizabeth Courtland schemed and decided to send Alfred and Agnes away on a boat vacation to create some romance. And surprisingly by the end of the trip, Alfred and Agnes were falling in love. They decided to renew their vows in a much more lavish ceremony on April 5, 1970. Only a little more than nine months later Agnes gave birth to Alfred's daughter Lillian Hazel Courtland.
From there on, married life was normal and simplistic for Aggie and Al. In the next ten years Agnes had five more children, two boys and three girls. But tragedy struck in November of 1880 when only two weeks after announcing their next pregnancy one of their young children fell horribly ill. Nellie Frances was a year old and her immune system could barely compete with the fever she had caught. Only a month later, she passed away. Agnes grieved for months and lost all sight as a mother. She was barely able to give birth to her child but when it came down to it she pulled through. Catherine Nellie became Agnes' salvation.
Now, sixteen years later, Agnes and Alfred are parents to six, parents-in-law to five and grandparents to nine. Lillian married Frank Orville when she was nineteen and they have three children. Harry married the love of his life, Annie Glether, when they were both seventeen and they have four children with one on the way. Clara and Emma married best friends Colin Rodgers and Louis Booth, officers in the army, at eighteen and twenty respectively. Catherine has yet to marry but she is currently being courted by Thomas Elford.

DH: Thomas Henry Coleson
Henry was born on January 1st in 1908. He is the oldest son and the middle of five children with two older sisters (Helen and Anna), a younger brother (Edward) and a younger sister (Ruth). He was born into a normal, middle class family and finished his schooling before becoming an Accountant. He grew up in New York City, NY with his best friend and cousin, Charles Coleson.
DW: Evelyn Rose Coleson (nee Jernigan)
Evelyn was born on October 7th in 1909. She is the youngest of three children with two older brothers (Theodore and Andrew). She was born into a lower, middle class family in Louisville, KY before her family moved to New York when she was 9. There she finished school before becoming a Grocer in her fathers store like her brothers before she married and moved away.
Evelyn and Henry met when Henry's cousin Charles began arguing with Evelyn's brother, Theodore, over the price of grain. After Henry had convinced Charles that it wasn't worth it and that they could go somewhere else, he returned to the store to apologize to Theodore for his cousin's behavior. Instead he found Evelyn and asked her to relay the message to her brother before hurrying after Charles. Later that week he returned to the store to see Evelyn again and it continued on like this for months until Henry got up the courage to ask Evelyn on a date. They soon fell in love and married in the Spring of 1928. It was soon after their marriage that Evelyn became pregnant with their first child.
DS: Charles William Coleson
William is the oldest child of Evelyn and Henry and named for his fathers cousin. He was born on what is known as one of the worst days in American History, October 29th of 1929, also known as Black Tuesday. He never finished his schooling later in life since few children attended school during the Depression, so when it was over William was very behind and found it difficult to keep up with the material. He became an Ironworker in his later life to support his wife (Shirley) and three children (Susan, David and Robert)
DD: Barbara Jean Coleson
Barbara is the oldest daughter of Evelyn and Henry and the second oldest child. She was born on August 19th of 1930, just over 9 months after her brother William. Her birth put alot of strain on the family since money and supplies were so scarce in the Depression. She, like William, would never finish school in her later years after the Depression was over. As an adult she became a seamstress to help support her two children (Kenneth and Carole)
