Our preffered first name is Josiah or Elijah and the last name will be Mathews. Any suggestions for a variant of Zachariah for the middle name? If you can think of any other middle names that go good, please suggest. Thanks!

I'm going to put the family of the name Zachariah here and I'm not going to say any of them are winners because it hasn't changed much!

Original/Root name: Yahweh (Theology) this changed to: Zekharyah (Biblical Hebrew) which changed to: Zachariah (Biblical), Zechariah (Biblical), Zacharias (Biblical Greek).

Zachariah changed to: Nothing, it ceased changing

Zechariah changed to: Nothing, ceased changing

Zacharias changed to: Zaxariah (Old Church Slavic), Zakhar (Russian), Zachary (English), Sakari (Finnish), Zacharie (French), Zachariasz (Polish), Sachiari (Scottish), Zacaris (Spanish)

Zachary then changed to: Zac, Zach, Zachery, Zack, Zackary, Zackery, Zak

Zaxariah inspired the names: Zaharina (F. Macedonian), Zahari (Bulgarian)

Sakari inspired:Sakke (Finnish), Saku (Finnish)

Zaharina inspired: Zaharinka (F Macedonian), Zara (F. Bulgarian)

I don't know if any of the names piqued your interest even if just as giving you ideas on how to tweak the name Zachariah. From some of the names in the family tree I think Zeke would work but I don't like it with your last name. I'll list some Z names in case you're drawn to those.

Zain/Zane
Zander
Zavier
Zenon
Zimri (means my music which is kind of cute if you and/or your SO think music is really important, it's also Biblical)
Zinovy
Zion
Zoran
Zorion (means happiness : )
Zuriel (Biblical, my rock is god)

A name that I think goes well with either Josiah and Elijah is Ezekiel which also has a prominent Z if that's important to you : )

I like Zachary Elijah Matthews the best, but if you want Elijah first I like

Zane (the only Z name I personally like other than Zachary)
Reid/Reed
Chase
