Hate Middle vs. Name

Hi ladies!! So we are naming our son Gregory after my husband. My husband insists that his middle name must be Michael which is my father in laws name. I love my father in law very much but I dated a few Michael's and I associate them with the name. I also just really don't like it. I love my husband and my father in law but really don't want to give my son this middle name. Advice is appreciated thanks so much!!! -Renee

Simply put: talk to your DH. He is the only one that can help you. The only suggestion might be see if he will go for a variant of Michael. The baby really needs a name that is his own. He is being named after both his father and grandfather. Really needs his own name, so a variant will give him that. Good luck.

Agree with above. State what you said here to your husband. I think he will understand. I also think that there are other ways to honor your father in law. Maybe his middle name can be your son's middle name? How about Gregory Micah? Gregory Elliot? Gregory Mitchell?

You're both the parents so you both get input and veto power. Maybe tell him that you want to choose one of the names. Since he got to pick the first name (with your approval), you get to pick the middle name (with his approval).

Would your father-in-law's middle name work?

Try to compromise on a name together. You also have a say on what the middle name is as well!

Suggestions:
Gregory Lucas
Gregory Kai

How about using a middle name that honors someone on your side of the family since his first name honors his father?

Since your using one family I feel your child deserves a name that is not a hand me down and chosen especially for him. Maybe if you have another child use a form of Michael or Michael or Just the initial M. Plus I wouldn't think your husband would like the name reminding you of past relationships. Also it would be more fair if you included someone from your side of the family.
