Pierce vs. Pearse

We have decided to name our son Pearson (it’s a family name) but cannot decide how to spell his nickname. Pierce, which is the more original spelling, or Pearse, which goes with the spelling of the full name. Help, please!!

Though I prefer the common spelling, I would use Pearse because it makes sense.

I would use Pierce. Pearse makes me want to say it like ’purse’

There is also the name Piers, which is pronounced more like peerz. (Like piers down by the beach, you know?) I prefer that to Pierce, which I’m never fond of because I don’t like the idea of something having a hole poked in it.

i would go with Piercen so that way you can spell his NM Pierce.

not to mention Pearse makes me think Pears, which could potentially be fruity for him.

I would stay with the traditional Pierce. There are other common names with nicknames that don’t exactly match in spelling (William/Bill, Henry/Hank, Johnathan/Jack)
