Need Help vs. WDYT?

I want to name my daughter after my mother who died when I was five. Her name was Alice Victoria. The problem with this is my last name is Cullen. I had no idea this could be a problem until my sister in law(who is 17) told me thats a name of a character in a movie thats really popular right now. So my question is would it be strange for me to use my mothers name? My husband and I could care less. We’ve never even seen the movie but we dont want people to be rude about her name. WDYT? Thanks-Tori and Ryan

I think she is talking about the twilight movie? I dont think its a big deal though. I think its great that you want to honor your mother and the name is absolutely beautiful so I say go for it! :)

ooh, that’s a difficult one. twilight is crazy popular right now, so a lot of people are going to assume that you are naming her after the character on the book. there are a lot of obsessed fans out there. on the other hand alice is a traditional name, so it’s not that big a deal. as long as you don’t mind saying, "...no, never read the book. she’s named after my mother" every once in a while than you should be fine. just to let you know, alice cullen is a very sweet and likable character--if that helps! gl!

oh, and the name is pretty, by the way!

Perhaps name her Victoria Alice? I saw the movie with my daughter...you have no idea how popular this is. Its like the new Harry Potter. So for a kid, being named Alice Cullen would be like having the name Hermione Granger. However, I think its a pretty name. So I guess if you don’t mind telling everyone your reason...

I would use either Victoria or Alice (either as FN or MN) but not both of them. I think using your mother`s name is beautiful gesture. I also think that this baby girl should enjoy her own unique name.

you could use a variant of Alice

Alyse Victoria Cullen a-lees not a-liss
Allison/Alison/Alyson/Allyson Victoria Cullen

or a name that means the same as Alice

Adelheid
Alicia/Alisha/Alysha
Alissa

hope this helps

Thats just current pop culture. I think it is a cute name, and one that is obiously special. Twilight may be a big deal to teens of today, but 15 years from now? I doubt it.

I say go for it!

Twilight is really popular. But as the person before me said it won’t be 15 years from now. I think its a beautiful name. You should go for it.
