Unity Elaine is very pretty. I like the mn Faith, but Unity Faith sounds kind of like a church or something. Amaryah is ok, but it is hard to spell and Unity Amaryah is quite a mouthful. Unity Elaine is the perfect combination of originality and beauty.

Unity is gorgeous I love it!!! I love it paired with faith and it definitely doesn’t sound like a church. Elaine doesn’t really flow.

Unity Faith by far:)

Unity Faith is pretty, but it sounds like a church to me, too. We have a church in our town named Unity Faith Christian Fellowship, so I also immediately thought of a church. Elaine is pretty.

I have to agree that Unity Faith sounds like a church. I also agree that you totally missed the mark with the name. It may be unique, but in no way is it classic. That being said, I vote for Elaine as the middle name because she needs a good middle name to back her up when she decides she needs another name to go by.

Unity is just awful for a name! Why burden your child? Faith is gorgeous, albeit a bit overused these days. Amaryah Faith or Amaryah Elaine would be unique and is much prettier than unity. I like the idea behind unity, but the word itself doesn’t make a very pretty name. Sorry..........

elaine doesn’t go with unity but faith does and who cares if there is some church with that name What does it matter? There are tons of churches with human names st. nicholas church and so on and so forth doesn’t mean people are going to stop calling there kids nicholas

I really like unity

St. Nicholas Church is named after a person, not the other way around. Duh.

Unity is a virtue name and was a persons name long ago just like felicity mercy and all those others DUH!

Don’t listen to the people who say its bad i think Unity faith is beautiful and people are just being negative for the sake of being negative, its your choice not theirs

Amaryah is a pretty, unique name. It would be much better for a person than Unity. I think the reason Unity isn’t used very much is because it doesn’t make for a pretty-sounding name, as do Faith and Grace, which is why those are so overused.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:34 PM | report
one of my friends is named unity and everyone she knows likes it.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:35 PM | report
I’m being negative for the sake of the child, not because I can. Just think of a playground where people are calling out to their friends. Can you imagine someone calling "Unity! Hey Unity, you want to play with us?’ It just doesn’t sound right. Or good. Therefore, I’m being negative so that the parents may realize that the name isn’t appropriate for a person and may change their mind before their child is stuck with it.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:36 PM | report
faith and grace are overrated as first names and amaryah sounds pretty bad Unity is really cute in my opinion :)
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:36 PM | report
Next to unity, Peyton and Raegan are starting to sound good. I’m sorry, I just can’t imagine this name on a little girl. Actually, I can see it more on a kid than on an adult. It will not age well. At all.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:38 PM | report
I like Charity and Felicity much better than Unity. It is original and unique, but it doesn’t sound very pretty, sorry. But if you love it, use it. I like it best with Faith. And to all the posters fighting with each other (like those 2 who ended their comments in duh...): put your big girl panties on and deal with it. This poll is to help the poll maker, not argue with each other. Grow up. Good luck, Poll Maker

Amaryah sound bad but Unity sounds good??? Where do you live? At least with the name Amaryah she won’t be teased.
Poster, have you considered reversing the names and naming her Amaryah Unity? It will be equally as unique a name, but may be a bit easier for her in life.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:39 PM | report
To the unity hater just go away and name your kids mary and bob and stop hating on a name you are just not used to. I think unity faith is gorgeous and most people on here agree .

I think Unity Faith is pretty don’t listen to the haters :)

I love how when someone has a valid negative critique all the postitive pollys say don’t listen!

These are VALID critiques and opinions!

Unity is not pretty. It means Harmony/oneness, Harmony would be a much prettier fn.

It is not classic, its kinda a hippy name if anything or serious holy roller style.

Well said, pp!

Oh, and I like the pp suggestion of Amaryah Unity...still gets the point across but will make for an easier time on the playground.

Harmony Faith would be stunning AND have the same meaning.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:44 PM | report
I’m not the only one who doesn’t like this name. Clearly. It may be the only name on here that really is ’unique’ in the sense that there won’t be another person with this name. (And for good reason). And its not that I’m not used to the name. I’m not used to Sari or Catriona (in other polls) either, but I still think they’re fine for a name, even if I’d never use them myself. Unity does not fit into this category.

FYI, my children’s names are Skye and Chase. Unique, but not ugly. Maybe not everyone’s favourite, but at least you can imagine a child with the name.

I see no problem with name Unity Faith I think some people on here are too old fashioned/conservative thats why everything seems hippie to them
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:45 PM | report
And to add to that, I think Amaryah Unity would be much prettier. Amaryah is quite unique and very pretty
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:45 PM | report
If we’re old-fashioned/conservative, what do you think the poster is? Unity is still in the style of old-style virtue names, just not common because in general people don’t like it

I think unity faith is really cute , just pick whatever you feel is best

I agree with the pps that suggest Amaryah Unity. I also like Amaryah Faith.

I’m very grateful for all the nice comments we have gotten. For all of you who MUST know, yes we are very conservative and old-fashioned. I don’t understand why names like Millicent and Prudence are considered nice and old-fashioned when Unity is not. Like we said Unity stays, if you would like to help us find a middle name for her please do. ~ POSTER

I swear there is like one person on here who answers every positive comment and turns it into negative just stop with the immature arguing and shut up. I personally like Unity Faith best of luck to the poll maker
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:50 PM | report
Well, for the same reason that Millicent and Prudence are NOT considered nice....
Anyway, Elaine or Faith get my vote for a middle name, because as said above, if/when she decides she doesn’t want to go by the name Unity, she needs a decent (and common, for this purpose) middle name to use.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:51 PM | report
And I swear there’s one person who answers all the negative comments with one saying ’don’t listen to that. I like it’.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:52 PM | report
Unity Elaine. I just think Unity Faith is overdoing the virtue-ness. Same reason I wouldn’t use Grace Hope or Faith Joy as a name.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 02:53 PM | report
lol. yeah. It seems every other comment is ’don’t listen to all the negative comments. Unity Faith is pretty. I think all the people saying its bad should stop being immature.’ Not even creative in terms of saying the same thing!
I like Amaryah best. I don’t know why, but maybe because the other two are popular.
posted by Lee :: Apr 04, 2009 02:57 PM | report
I love Millicent and Prudence, they are old fashioned/conservative and pretty. I do think that Unity while in the same category of old fashioned/conerservative is on the opposite spectrum of way too straight laced and uber conservative on par with Verity/Chastity.

I love alot of names except for the new trendeigh/unisex/misspelled names styles and if that makes me ultra conservative in someones eyes that’s fine by by I am not offended since I think names like Kynzee/Kiealie are super tacky teen mom names.

Poll maker, if your heart is set on Unity go ahead and use it.

Unity Lillian sounds pretty, also yeah that negative person just mimics everyone its annoying!
posted by elizabeth :: Apr 04, 2009 02:58 PM | report
There is more that one person who does not like this name. Sorry, again the negative comments are not NEGATIVE they are just critiques.

People are entitled to their own opinions and thoughts even if they differ from the norm. Crazy, isn’t it? People have differing thoughts!!! What a concept!
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:02 PM | report
Can that person stop being so negative now the poll maker said the name stays so get over it! its not one of my favorite names but I think it o.k and nothing to freak about. Unity Rose would sound nice.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:02 PM | report
Unity Elizabeth Rose..........

I am not a fan either. However people are entitled to make their comments. THere is no outright rudness in any of the posts unlike some other polls so I suggest you all get over it!
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:05 PM | report
^^ Can that one positive person stop being so mean towards all the people giving their honest opinion?

See how it feels? You know you’re not the only one commenting, yet you assume that I am. Well, I know I’m not because for one, the comment above your is not mine. :O. really? There’s more than one person?
If you must must must use this name, Elaine is by far the best middle name.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:08 PM | report
I agree with the previous poster also unity Elizabeth rose flows well
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:08 PM | report
lol. i like the argument between the negative and positive people. But poster, you may be getting something out of this, yes?
Also, do you have any other children? I’m curious to know what their name(s) are/is.

I meant i agree with the Unity elizabeth rose comment not not the one with rant under it, people should just chill out and get a life

For whatever reason, I like Unity Amaryah. I don’t particularly like either name, but they seem to flow well together.
Anyway, I hope my post doesn’t get lost in here...

Have you considered Leah or Rebecca as a middle name? I know you listed those 3, but I think these might also fit your style. I think the best would be a middle name ending in ’ah’ sound, but I don’t care for Amaryah, hence m y suggestions. Wdyt?
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:12 PM | report
didn’t you here shaila the poll maker said the name unity stays so theres no point of saying that

This is the most comments I’ve seen on a poll in a long time!
I’m sorry poll poster, but I don’t like Unity. It just seems strange as a name because it means together and one person can’t be together... I’m afraid I can’ explain it well, but an example is with the name Joy, it describes her emotions/attitude, but with Unity it would describe what? Her togetherness with herself. Again, I’m sorry. I just don’t understand this name’s meaning.
posted by Jen :: Apr 04, 2009 03:16 PM | report
Oh, sorry. I didn’t read the comments, just wrote mine. If you insist on this name, I believe a standard middle name would balance it out. My favourite from your list is Elaine. GL!
And poster above mine (Jen), it should read ’hear’ not ’here’ and in any case should be see not hear. (Yes, I’m a grammar freak)
posted by Jen :: Apr 04, 2009 03:19 PM | report
The name unity means that the person called unity is able to unite others like for example if Unity was born and old enough she would stop all the meaningless arguing in this poll LOL
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:19 PM | report
Love the suggestion of Unity Elizabeth Rose. When she is older she can use Elizabeth/Rose professionally if Unity is something that won’t carry her.

Names do effect you in the workplace as much as looks (sad to say) and of course education. There are quite a few articles about how your name affects your personality/job. It is pretty interesting. Just a thought for everyone not just poll maker.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:23 PM | report
But unity means ’the state of being united or as a whole.’ I’m sure everyone prays that she is ’together’ within herself, but this seems a harsh name to giver her. I would not name a child something she is not guaranteed to be. I would not name a child Chastity either. Joy, on the other hand, can refer to the parents’ joy. Faith can refer to the parents’ faith in her becoming something good. Perhaps Faith Unity? That would mean that you have Faith she will be united, perhaps with other people. What do you think?
posted by Jen :: Apr 04, 2009 03:24 PM | report
Unity can also mean the unity within a person, like Buddha, you know at peace with himself and the world.
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:24 PM | report
Unity, as in no internal struggles within, and Jen no name is guaranteed to be like the person himself all names have meanings that not all people live up to
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:27 PM | report
Yes, but with a name with such an obvious and clear meaning, it is more important that the name not mean something bad, strange, or unlikely to be fulfilled by the person with said name. If the name were Jacob, it would be less important, since not everyone knows the meaning of the name.
posted by Jen :: Apr 04, 2009 03:31 PM | report
i don’t like the first name sorry but the best middle name is Faith
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:45 PM | report
The name doesn’t mean anything bad so I see no problem really. Children in school can find a million reasons to criticize a person and make fun of them I once knew Jessica who was nicknamed sicky which lead to her being called psycho and that name is extremely popular.

I just had a thought...what if this poll is fake (and I am NOT saying it is, but...) and the poll creator is just sitting back laughing at the uproar it caused! I just thought that would be a hilarious end to this contoversy!!!
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:52 PM | report
Yeah It would but I don’t think it was. Though that would be hilarious!
posted by guest :: Apr 04, 2009 03:57 PM | report
lol. I was going to say that earlier, but I didn’t want to create further debate from the ’positive crowd’.
