ooh, you’re gonna start a debate! people get so worked up about "stealing" boys names for girls on this site! anyway, actually i haven’t heard emerson for a boy much--if at all. it’s been brought up on polls a bunch for girls. i would spell it emerson. the y doesn’t change the name. gl!

I like it, I don’t see anything ugly about it.
Emerson is not very feminine at all.
Use Emme, Emma, Emilee if you love the "em" sound.
It reminds me of elmer!

I don’t like it, but it’s better than lots of names on this site.
I would just spell it Emerson. Random y’s are just confusing and low class imho.
Like others, I’m not a fan of boys’ names on girls, but Emerson and Addison are two examples of boys’ names that were rarely used on boys to begin with (though I do pity the mom of a little boy named Addison. It means Adam’s son).
Anyway, my main objection to Emerson is that I think of the author/philospher Ralph Waldo Emerson, and when I hear someone say, "Oh, we just liked the name," then I think, "Duh!"
My other issue with it is that the logical nns are things like Em and Emmy, and there are about one billion little girls with those nns.
So, no, it’s not That Bad, but really.....do you want to use a name that’s not That Bad, or do you want to use a really great one?

I like Emerson for a girl first name...nn Emmy. As for a boy it would be a cute mn but I cann’t think of a nice boy nn. Emer would sound too much like Elmer. As for the debate sometimes I agree that some names should be left for the boys because once it crosses the girl line it cann’t come back. For some reason it is then always veiwed as a girls name...examples Ashley & Courtney. GL :)

Names ending in -syn look low class too me. THere is a topless club called Syn Cabaret and that’s all I can think of when I see Carsyn Emersyn Madysyn

Love Love Love it for a girl...Think that it is way to femmy for a boy....Em, Emmie, Emma, and Emery are the most common nn’s and all are girly...It may end in SON but it is a girls name to me like MadiSON, AddiSON and AlliSON. I have a darling little baby girl who I named Emerson nn Emmie and we get compliments all the time. I was fully aware of poet Ralph Waldo Emerson but it didnt matter to me...I liked the name.If you like it you should use it.
