how do you vs. say

Hi. I’m also seeing mara on here a lot lately. How do you say it? Does anyone have this name or no anyone with it? Just curious. It kind of grows on ya. I like the fact that it’s not common. Any thoughts?

I have no idea how to pronounce it and have wondered the same thing. My biggest concern would be how the general public would deal with not knowing how to say it and having that be annoying to my daughter after so many years.

I know a girl named Mar-uh, spelled Mara! I never thought to pronounce it differently.

It can be said either Mar-uh or Mare-uh

The name Mara is pronounced "MAR-uh" typically. I know somebody with that name, and I think that is pretty much a common way to say it! I don’t think the girl I know has any trouble with mispronunciation...that is truly a beautiful name!!

There is a little girl in my son’s preschool class that spells it Mara and her mother pronounces it Mare-uh. I think it depends on what part of the country that you are from. That’s like the name Leila. I have never heard it pronounced Lay-luh until I came on this site. Not only is it a family name, I went to school with 2 Leilas and it was always pronounced LEE luh. Either way you want to pronounce it, I think it is a beautiful name and very underused.
