I actually really like the name Renesmee, no matter what. I think it’s sweet and soft sounding. I also like the nick name Nessie, which is also a nn for Vanessa. A lot of people will try to convince you that its not a good nickname because of the loch ness monster, but they wouldn’t bring it up with the name Vanessa. It’s mostly because they are unsure of the name Renesmee and not formilar with it, my friend was considering the name Renesmee with the nn Nessie, she had that comment a lot!

Oh hi again! Thank you! I really like it! It’s also the nickname they used in the book, my neice tells me everything about that book!

Your child will be taunted and made fun of for life. And will ALWAYS be associated with that book series.

And Nessie is an awful nickname.

Lock Ness Monster anyone?

And yes, if Nessie was going to be the nn for Vanessa I would have brought it up as well

Why the name Renesmee?

Well, I couldn’t call her Jennifer or Ashley. What do you name the most unique baby in the world? I looked through a lot of baby name websites. Eventually I realized that there was no human name that was going to work for me, so I surrendered to necessity and made up my own. I don’t approve of such shenanigans in real life, I don’t even believe in getting creative with spellings for real kids! But this was fantasy, and no human name fit, so I did the best I could. I named Renesmee so long ago—Fall 2003—that the name now sounds really natural to me. It wasn’t until people started mentioning it that I remembered, "Oh, yeah, it is a weird name, isn’t it?"

That’s from Stephanie Meyer’s website.
She does not approve of these shenangians.

Hi, you are welcome!

there was a movie on lifetime called odd girl out, the main character in the movie was named Vanessa and her mom called her Ness or Nessa for a nickname a lot! So i don’t think it is strange or will be made fun of!

I think you will find the right nn once your "daughter" is born. NN can’t be forced, they happen.

Thanks everone!

And 6th poster, I cant even count the number of times I’ve seen that and it doesnt effect me, sorry. And 5th poster, I didnt ask your opinion, I asked which mn and nn.

Well this is an OPINION based site so you’ll get to hear what people think no matter what you ask.

Well then I guess I’ll just have to ignore it :)

I think you should read the series before you choose this name for your child to have forever.

I might read it but I don’t think it matters. If I read a book about a girl named Katherine and she wasn’t my favorite character, it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like the name Katherine anymore.

I’m sorry, but please don’t name your poor, innocent little girl such a horrible, made-up, trashy name.

She will *definitely* be made fun of and have to deal with the torment until she’s old enough to change her name.

But, I can see that you’re immature enough to still want this "name", so if I had to choose, Renesmee Danielle. Terrible choice, though.

But Katherine/Catherine is sooooo popular that it can be associated with millions of people.

Renesmee is very different, as there is only one, and she is fictional.

It’d be like if I wanted to name my daughter Madonna. Everyone would associate her with the material girl.

It does matter.

Um, thank you I guess? At least you answered one of my questions.

I mean it doesn’t matter to me

Are you a pregnant teen?

If not, this must be made up.
posted by Annabelle :: 14 years ago | report
Actually I’m not a pregnant teen, I’m turning 30 on sunday and this isn’t fake. Why would I waste my time on here making fake polls?

Do you even know what Renesmee was in the Twilight books? She was basically the unwanted, half-vampire child of an eighteen-year-old mortal girl/idiot and her vampire husband. "Nessie" grew so fast, that she broke her mother’s ribs and ended up having to be clawed out by her father in some kind of at-home C-section.
About a week later, she falls in love with her mother’s ex-boyfriend (who also happens to be a vicious werewolf).

Is that really what you want people to associate your daughter with? Really?

Oh wow, this is a little out there.

I love unique names. I have four children: Isla Soleil, River Maxwell, August Nathan and Jasper Matthew.

However, even I think this name is toooo much.

I agree with the other reader, read the books. It will matter. Plus you will have them later in case she is curious about her name and can read them herself.

Oh, and in response to Annabelle, the reason she asked, I am assuming, is because we get a lot of teen polls on here and they all love the name you are choosing.

Oh, thanks Natalie for being kindly honest! My neice loves the name so much! Maybe thats why. But I still love the name! And the poster before, my neice didn’t see her that way and loved her character. I might read them!

Well, as a fan of the Twilight names and the series....

The description of the baby is pretty much accurate. The baby is half vampire, half mortal and did grow so fast that she almost killed Bella. She did break her ribs and drain Bella. The baby thirsted for blood and was killing Bella to the point where Bella had to drink blood to survive. Everyone thought she would die. Edward wanted Carlisle to perform an abortion. The only one who wanted her to have the baby was Rosalie who cannot have children and wanted to keep the baby for herself if Bella died. The baby was killing Bella when the emergency C-Section was performed and the only way to save Bella was to turn her into a vampire.

She grew 2 years in 1 week and did fall in love with her mother’s ex boyfriend, the wolf.

It is a pretty awful thing to be named after.
She almost killed her own mother.

I read them, and I’m proly bout too make that guest poster mad. But Reneesme did NOT fall in love with her mother’s x boyfriend a wk after she was born. They’r was some sorta freaky "bonding" thing that happened called "imprinting" but u’d really hav 2 read it 2 understand. She was just a kid tho she wasnt n love, and there was nothing perverted it about it. And it wasnt even her moms x boyfriend it was just a friend. I agree tho, I think u should read at least Breaking Dawn the last book b4 u dcide.

"Freaky bonding/imprinting" aka love.
It was already stated that they would wind up together.

Jacob would be the babies’ father’s enemy btw.

Wolves and Vampires are enemies in the series.

All the dynamics of the book aside. imho, its not a very pretty name, maybe if the series wasnt so hugely popular rite now it would be better. but with the popularity rite now I personally thinks its a bad idea because i do feel like she would get picked on. If you really love it I suggest use it for a mn. No offense intended

I hope you are taking all of this in the right way. People aren’t trying to be rude but just trying to give you all the possible ramifications of naming your little girl this. I love the Twilight series but despised the last book, the one where this name comes from. I thought the name cheesy but with that aside, this name is too unique and way too associated to the character. If the books weren’t so popular you might be able to get away with it but everyone, and I do mean everyone, will be thinking about the freaky vampire baby when they hear your child’s name. So I say rethink it, not because I hate the name but because of the notoriety that will plague your girl. Just consider it. (Sorry to be so down on a name you love.)
