I need some help for my little princess’s name :) I already have 2 daughters, Grace is 3 and Julianne is 2. I want the name to be pronounced Mad-uh-lynn, but I don’t love the look of Madelyn. Opinions would be great, thanks so much! -Anna, Jack, Grace, Annie, and Maddie.

Madeleine is definitely going to be pronounced Mad-uh-line. Madeline is probably going to be too. Madelin is a unique spelling, that would be pronounced the way you want it to. Or Madalyn?

Please don’t use Madeline! I hate that so many people go against basic grammar rules and pronounce this like Mad-uh-lynn. Line has a long i sound! Why don’t you like Madelyn? I think it’s the prettiest, it won’t be mispronounced, and it won’t be misspelled as easily like Madeleine would.

Thanks for the comments! I don’t like Madelyn because I don’t really like Y’s in names, I think they look trendy, and Madeline/Madeleine look more classical.

Madeleine is pronounced Mad-uh-lynn (As in Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State). Madeline is pronounced with a long -i- as Mad-uh-line.
Use Madeleine. It’s classic and beautiful and if someone mispronounces it every once in a while, you can take comfort in the fact that they’re wrong and your spelling is correct.

First of all, none of these pronunciations apply to French. In French, Madeline is pronounced Mad-uh-LEEN to rhyme with Josephine. And Madeleine is pronounced similar to Mad-uh-lynn.
In English, we pronunce Madeline to rhyme with Caroline. (LINE) And Madeleine, Madelynn, etc. to rhyme with Carolyn. (LYNN)

In the Madeline books, Madeline is pronounced Mad-uh-LINE.
"In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines
Lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.
In two straight lines they broke their bread
And brushed their teeth and went to bed.
They smiled at the good and frowned at the bad.
And sometimes they were very sad.
They left the house at half past nine
In two straight lines in rain or shine.
The smallest one was Madeline."

Sorry guys for the confusion, I’m making this poll for my mom’s best friend Anna, who is expecting a daughter and doesn’t know which spelling to choose. Don’t worry, I’m not pregnant, only 15 years old! Anna told me what to write because her computer is broken at the moment. Thanks for the comments; I’ll be sure to let her know what you guys think!

I’m sorry if you don’t believe me, but I don’t know what you don’t believe. My mother’s friend Anna called me telling me to make a poll for her, and what to say, so I did it. I made it, so I signed MY name. That’s it!

Oh, oops, I’m so sorry! I thought you were being sarcastic, saying "Sure, that’s real alright" but not in a nice tone. Sorry about that, thanks for the help
