Ashley vs. Allie/Ally/Alli/Ali
Hey guys its Olivia again. My dd was born on the 15th, but she is still nameless. Our other kids have curly, strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes if that helps. We found these two names that we really loved last night, so we would love you to give us your opinions since we need to turn her birth certificate in today. Please let us know which name you like better, why, and if you pick Ally, which spelling do you like best? Thanks!~Olivia, Brett, Mollie (5), Sarah and Nicole (2)

Thanks Sk, but we don’t really like Ashlyn. That’s funny though, because we know 3 Ashleys as well, and one has blonde hair, and two have red hair. I guess everyone knows different people. Thanks!

You’re welcome.
How about Ashley Allison? Would this work with your last name? Or Allison Ashley with nn of Allie?

Definitely Allie. My daughter has a friend named Allie (just Allie, not short for anything) and it suits her perfectly. And I’d stick with that spelling. "Ally" is like a member of an alliance, "Alli" is a weight-loss product, and "Ali" will be pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable, like Muhammed Ali. Definitely Allie.

I don’t think Mollie and Allie are too close, they are definitely similiar, though. Why don’t you flip a coin....that way, if it comes up Allie and you’re a bit disappointed, you’ll know you really like Allie better, or vise versa. Either way, I don’t think you can loose. And I’m with you, i don’t like nn for the very reason you suggested! gl

There are too many Ashleys....it was especially over used in the 1980s along with Brooke. Ally is cute but it is a nickname for Alice, Allison, Alexis, Alexandra, Alexa, etc. I suppose it could be used as a name on its own though.

I have strawberry blond hair and blue eyes and my name is Ali. It suits me great and I love my name. contrary to the pp, NOBODY has ever pronounces it like muhammed Ali. I think Ali is cute and simple and the best way to go!

I vote for Ali which is my nickname for Alexandra. Very rarely do I get it mispronounced. Not sure if it matters but I have very dark brown hair and green eyes and I have always loved being an Ali. (Even when I was younger and we would pretend play and get new names, I would have the hardest time because I just loved my name.)

I like Allie, and not just because I know one with red hair. I like it WAY better than Ashley. Ashley just seems over-used to me. Gl.
