finnish vs. or vs. english

Hi, I am Finnish and my hubby is English (we’re living in the UK). I’m 28 weeks pregnant with our first baby, and it’s a boy. I want to give him a Finnish name (favorites: Erkki, Fredrik, Kai, Mikko, Niko, Olli, Santtu and Ville) but my husband wants English name (favorites: Aaron, Benedict, Brody, Cameron, Jacob, Kevin, Leon and Wesley). Can I mix them (Finnish first name, English middle name; English fn, Finnish mn )? Or is it ridiculous? What’s good for the child? wdyt? Thanks! ~Seija, Alex & Baby boy

I think the idea of choosing one name from each heritage sounds nice. I like Fredrik, Kai and Mikko from your list and Aaron, Jacob and Cameron from you husbands list.

Fredrick Aaron
Mikko ?
Jacob Kai
Aaron Kai
Cameron Kai

Niko Benedict and Brody Mikko are cute, in my opinion.

Since you are living in the UK, I would pick an English name for the first name and a Finnish name for the middle. This will just make life easier for your child.

I love the finnsh names but understand that it might be better to use an english first name bc you are in the UK, do you plan on staying there?

Niko Benedict

(sal:) Yeah, I want to stay here, so I know that an English first name is better for him, but is Niko bad for first name? I don’t think that it sounds strange. Or Fredrik? I don’t know...

Mixing is fine. However, if you are in an English country, I would use an English fn and go with the Finnish mn. Or, choose a fn that is acceptable in both.

Jacob Olli
Kevin Mikko

I love Niko Benedict, too! It really works. And he can be Nick to his mates if he wants.
Like Kai and Mikko, & Jacob and Cameron also. Nothing wrong with being unique anyway. Why not honour his heritage.

After all, we gave him the name Niko Benedict. He is 3 weeks old today. Thank you for giving suggestions :-) it was really helpful.
