The only trouble is that it sounds like jailin’. So whatever spelling will encourage people not to make that association...Jae-Lynn keeps the Jae separate. I had a friend who named her daughter Jael, wanted it pronounced Jay-EL, but people say "jail."

Im sorry, I strongly dislike this name, looks made up. Anything that ends in eigh or lyns I don’t like.

If you don’t know how to spell it, chances are nobody will, let alone know how to pronounce it.

Jaelyn or even Jaelin are super cute. I personally like Jaelin. The "i" makes it look really girly!

And I wouldn’t worry about the jail think. It’s jay-len, not jail-en. Even spelling it Jaylen or Jaylin, would be fine. It’s easy to see jay-lin. So it’s not that big a deal, I don’t understand why someone thought it was.

I understand how it’s pronounced, I just think it looks tacky. It looks very unprofessional and will age horribly.

Well, sorry, if your asking how to spell it, spell it how it is pronounced, and how people would commonly spell it like....Jalyn?

It will age just fine. By the time your daughter gets older, this name will be the name of older people. Names follow with you through the years. If you named your kid Jessica, back in the 90’s, it will age just the same as any other name. Jaelyn is the style of names, so it will age fine.

I don’t think Jaelyn is a "horrible" name at all. Besides, I agree with the pp--unless the poster asks what you think of the name, then keep your opinions to yourself. If you think the name is horrible then don’t even comment on how to spell it!

All names are made up...at some point in time. So, why not Jaelyn?? Jaelyn is a fine name.

And the age thing...that’s crazy! Again, at some point in time your own name will be OLD.

Yeah, well, at one point trendy names were Ethel and Thelma.
Right now, there are old ladies named Sara, Grace, and Ethel and Thelma.

If you avoid choosing silly names that are the current "style," there is a far greater chance that your name will carry you through your whole life, rather than at some point sounding horrendous.

Also, it is absolutely proven that certain names are more likely to get one job and college interviews-namely those that don’t sound like someone made them up.

Having said all that, if the op loves it, then she should use it.

But imho it matters not one bit how it’s spelled.

I prefer Jaelyn spelling because it seems the most feminine to me with out having "Jay" in it. My 1 year old daughter’s name is Jazlyn...very close! Her nn is Jazzie and Jazz. A year later I still love her name...and it certainly fits her! Maybe you’ll like her middle name, Iva (after my grandmother). I think Iva sounds nice with it and is different yet classic sounding.

Oh...and by the way, many people said the same to me about Jazlyn (how it sounded made up). I didn’t make it up, in fact I found it in a name book and loved it. I’m a musician too so the Jaz part definitely appealed to me. My point is...a year later, no regrets. If you love the name, go with it!
