I know a Joseph who is 7 and everyone calls him Joey, but his parents like it. I dont really know if people will use a nn for Joseph. Its likely, but not definite IMO.

Reastically yes, when he goes to school he will be called by Joe. Unfortunately you won’t be able to stop that happening.

Just introduce him as Joseph.

Family would call him joesph if thats what you want, but when he gets to school it will most often get shortened to Joe. But even if his name cant be shortened kids come up with nicknames from his last name.

No necessarily. My brother’s name is Andrew and he’s never had a nn. Everyone calls him Andrew, not Andy or Drew. I think it depends on what family calls him and how he is introduced. At some point a few people are bound to call him Joe or Joey though.

There isn’t a doubt in my mind that he will go by something else. It usually starts when they go to kindergarten. If you really don’t want him to go by something else, I would just use Joseph as a middle name.

I know a Joseph and he gets called Joseph, the only people that would call him Joe was a few of his teachers in HS, he didn’t like it though, that’s why everyone called him Joseph. If you introduce him as Joseph he will be Joseph. Most teachers ask at the begining of the year if you go by something else. If he wants to be just Joseph, then he doesn’t have to say he goes by a nn, plain and simple.

If you call him Joseph and introduce him as Joseph then that is what he will be called. at school everyone will call him Joseph if that is what he wants to be called and says so. It is a fine first name.

People will probably call him Joe and Joey. He might even insist on having a nickname: especially in the teenage years. If you really don’t want him to have a nickname, pick a shorter or more unusual name like Jay, Keenan, or Connor. Something that doesn’t really have a good nickname. Good luck! :)

No use it and tell people not to call him Joe or Joey it’s Joseph.

I think it would be fine for his friends to call him Joe or Joey but you can always call him Joseph.
Good Luck :)

As a teacher, I see the trend of using full names...for example of the students in my class, they use these names and never a nn:
William
Joseph
Catherine
Daniel
Christopher
Zachary
Oliver
I always ask what they’d like to be called and 99% of the time, it is their full name, not a nn.

My husbands family calls him James, but everyone else he knows calls him Jim. His parents did not like "Jim" and introduced him as "James" but over time and into teens and adults Jim became the name. If you really like Joseph you should still go with it and tell him to correct people to Joseph if they shorten it cuz more than likely it will happen. We call my daughter Elaina and dont let her name shorten to Laney or Ellie cuz I don’t like them. People tried though.
