Opinions greatly vs. appreciated

Ok, so this isn’t exactly a poll for names but I figured it was a great place to get opinions on the subject. Is it alright to "take" a name that one of your sisters likes? Even if she is not married and not planning on having kids for a while. So who knows if her future husband will even like the name, right? Dh likes a name and suggested it to me, I didn’t like it at first just because I knew my sister did but now it has really grown on me. Just some fyi for you too...I have seven sisters (three bio and four step) and some of the names I like and planned to maybe use were taken by some of them. Thank you all for your help and opinions on this subject.

Oh and the name isn’t exactly the same. It is spelled the same way but we pronounce them differently.

I think it is fine but you should warn your sister first before you make your announcement to the whole family. I don’t understand people who think they "own" a name, and you’re right--it is a long shot that her future husband (if there even is one) will magically love the name Annica enough to use it IF they have a girl. Just explain to your sister exactly what you said to us and she should be able to deal with it.

Thank you so much. You make me feel so much better about it.

As long as she hasn’t used it, it really isn’t stealing. For instance, my name is Julia Mary and my brother is Paul Andrew. My cousin has two children, Maeve Julia and Andrew John. I consider that stealing of our names.

Definitely okay. Unless she was pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Who knows by the time she has kids she might have changed her mind and the name would have gone to waste.

Even if you don't like the names. Thanks!
