Gillian makes me think of gills on a fish. I prefer Jillian.

I want to pronounce it with a hard G sound too, so it would be like Gilligan’s Island rather than Jill.

When I voted, I wondered how you were going to pronounce it. "G" lends itself to being pronouced with a hard g and "J", soft. You are probably still going to get people call your child Gillian using a soft "G", though, because it’s one of those names that you don’t really know how to say unless you’ve heard the owner use it! Especially if you work with someone who uses "Gill" - you don’t know whether they pronounce it GILL like a fish or JILL like Jack n Jill. All the best.
