boy vs. girl

Hi everyone! I really love the musical Fiddler on the Roof and I always wanted to name my son or daughter after one of the characters. I’m keeping the sex a surprise, so I need to pick out both a boy and girl name. The list is in the first comment box. Oh, and the middle names will be Sarai for a girl and Hadriel for a boy. Thank you for your input!

I’ve seen this play and let me tell you, I had no idea what some of the names were until I looked at the program. So I vote for Golde and Mendel because I think they’ll be easiest to pronounce.

Of the girls, Tzeitel is the only one that is flattering sounding, same with Avrahm for a boy. Mendel is ok, but I don’t like how it is kind of rhymey with Hadriel. Just with whatever you choose, make sure it is one that won’t be incredibly difficult to pronounce.

I think Chava sounds pretty. I don’t love any of the boys names, but I’d choose Tevye, I guess.

Chava is also pretty for a girl and I definitely like Avrahm for a boy.

I like Chava and Tzeitel, and I like Avraham and Tevye, but I think Tevye is TOO Fiddler of the Roof. Kind of a one-man identity. And also, I would go with either a more Anglicized first name or middle name - having two like this makes it very different and difficult to pronounce/determine the gender if you aren’t familiar with the language. Just a suggestion, but I would highly suggest you consider it!

Chava is really nice for a girl! For a boy I like Mendel best.

Terrible names.
Keep your favorite musical your favorite musical. And keep that separate from naming your child.

would you be able to pronounce the names for us, as I am not sure how to say some of them so can’t decide if I like any. I also kind of agree with guest above. If you have your heart set on naming your baby after a character then perhaps have that has a middle name. Remember your child has to live with whatever name you give him/her.
