While gravity means what holds something up, it can also mean the "seriousness of the situation." As in, the gravity of someone’s illness, which usually isn’t a good thing. Why give your sweet daughter a name that means something bad? And, I agree, misspelling the name, makes you look uneducated. I also agree on picking a name that others do not have. What about something a little less out there, like Aspen or Aeris?

I’m all for having a unique name that stands out in a good way... Noble, Race or Valor for a boy... Dare or Mavourneen (Irish term of endearment that means "my darling," pronounced muh-VORN-yeen) for a girl. Unfortunately, Gravity stands out in an eyesore way.
Good luck to you... and especially her.

haha, I was thinking the same thing, pp!!
Galaxie and Gravitie would be the dumnest names I’ve ever heard for siblings (with the exception of Justice and Liberty or Phreedom).
The way you talk makes you seem uneducated, no matter how much education you have. Which isn’t saying much, because I know people who hold university degrees and talk the same way you do. Take out the stupid internet acronyms, the simley faces and the unnecessary grammar, and you might sound like you graduated high shcool. That being said, come back when you finish high school.

Your name doesn’t have to be "Beth" for you to type that in the display name box. You can type any name in there! I agree, I think you are commenting as Beth, it is such a shame that people like you are on this site. If you would really name your child Gravity or Gravitie then you shouldn’t be allowed to have a child! I think that there should be someone at every hospital whose job is to veto stupid names!!

First off, you’re cocky. Who tells people that they’re beautiful? What does that have to do with this anyway?
Second, yes, you want to be noticed, but not in a bad way. Having a dumb name will do that to you.
Third, you have a daughter named Galaxie (if it’s true) and you want a daughter named Gravity?? Not only are they so similar you’d probably mix them up (agian, if this is true), but they’d stand double the torture at school
Fourth, no one can be over-educated
Fifth, thanks for letting me rant

Actually, yes, there are people who censor names. But unfortunately, the level of censoring in the US (which is where I assume the poster lives) has slowly gotten worse and worse. I know they banned the name Saddam bin Laden (or something to that effect--yes, someone wanted to name their kid that. It was in the news). Well, Gravity is nowhere near that bad, but still...I wish censoring in the US were as high as in some European countries...

Actually, I’d say that she’s about the only poster who DOESN’T have some sense about her. Sense would mean knowing where to draw the line with out-there names.
If you care, I was considering naming my daughter Raine, because I really like it. But we considered it long and hard and put it through baby name tests (like the one on this site) and it just didn’t work. It sounds pretty and looks pretty written down, but when you imagine actually calling a kid by the name...it just doesn’t work. And for the record, we chose Ivy.

If you must know, my name is Cherry. My older sister is Amanda (Mandy) and my brother is Joshua (Josh), but nope. My parents just decided that they needed one stupid name in the family.
And that’s where I’m coming from when I say don’t give your kid a stupid name. I hated it. And by hated it, I mean that from age 6 I went with my nickname and when I left for college I changed my name entirely.

Yeah, cattle ranch=hick town. Maybe the smaller amount of contact that comes with having no neighbours has dampened your sense of how much other people influence a kid and should influence your naming choice.

Wow! I’ve never seen so much drama over a name! Poster actually has 3 other children...Gracie, Gavin and Galaxie. Gravitee/y/ie was an option, the other was Gwenivere! I’m sure there’s something to be said for creativity and individuality. Galaxie gets ton of compliments and it’s never the name that makes a child- it’s the child that makes the name. Knowing them personally, Galaxie fit’s her name perfectly! A beautiful, brown eyed, blonde curly hair beauty. Maybe people shouldn’t be so judgemental or shall I say Vanilla! Gravitee is cute! I love it - Gravitee Luna Claire! We’ll see what happens -come April!

You truly can not be "over"educated. Life is all about learning! If you think you are overeducated, possibly you are not nearly as educated as you should be...But you should name your daughter whatever you please and teach her humility which you obviously lack.

having same dilemma. Grandchild due soon. It’s a boy. They want to name him Gravity. We think it does not belong on the birth certificate. I understand being nonconventional and different, but this does not fit a human being and will mark this poor child for the rest of his life. He will have to be home schooled.
