Nicholas vs. yes vs. no

We’re pretty sure we’re naming our son Nicholas. Wdyt of the name? Also we dont want to use a nickname, just Nicholas. Do you think some people might automatically call him Nick even if we introduce him as Nicholas? Please tell us what you think. Thanks A&C

Sure, some ppl will try and nn him - some people think nns are the most awesome things ever, but if you or he says "No, its just Nicholas, not Nick", they’ll get it. Great name!

It is a great name! However, people are going to call him Nick and they wont even do it on purpose. I had a friend named nicholas growing up and everyone called him Nick.

Wonderful name. If someone calls him Nick, just tell them his name is Nicholas. It may take a few times, but they will get it eventually!

I think it’s a fantastic name but I think this is one where it will be tough to avoid the nn.

Good name! My brother is David and he gets Dave a lot even though he prefers David. I think if you really like Nicholas and remind people when he is a baby it will stick. But it may turn out that HE likes Nick and will want to go by it.

First of all, I love the name Nicholas! I think it is a name that most people like a lot. So, great choice! Some people take the liberty of nicknaming people and may call him Nick, but, if you introduce him to people who will have an ongoing relationship with him by adding, "We call him Nicholas, not Nick," it should prevent most people from doing that. People should settle in with it as Nicholas. My daughter has a three-syllable name -- and insists on going by her full name. Her friends always call her by her full name and I’ve never heard anyone call her a nickname (except me casually around the house).

Nice name..although consistently on the top 10 most popular baby names...he will most likely go by his first name and last initial forever..you might want to consider that!

I have a Nicholas called Nicholas, and so far it’s been easy but he’s only 4. I am very happy with the name, and if you call him Nicholas, other people probably will too.

Nicholas was #29 in popularity in 2008, so it is NOT ultra common. My son’s name is Daniel, which is rated as much more common, but I don’t think he has ever had another Daniel in his class.
