Hi, we are having our first child, and are having difficulty agreeing on a name. My wife wants an older classic english/north american name, I want something more European. Please let us know which you prefer.

I disagree re: Agatha being ugly. I think it is one of this classic names that is making a come back. Agnatha, Aggie, Agata, are some forms of the name used today.

Love Agatha! I think Agatha Claire would sound better than Clara. Lucia is also very pretty, though I don’t like Marica with it at all. Angela is just entirely less interesting than the other two...

oh Agatha eww...don’t do that to the poor girl, I know there are people on this cite that like it but not in real life at least in the U.S., I met one girl named Agatha (age 26) from Russia but born in the U.S. and people were always shocked when she told them her name..."really, that’s your name?" I like the rest of the names but how do you pronouce Marica like America without the A? If you want it to be Marieka I’d spell it like this. Gl!

I think Agatha is cute, especially if you use Aggie as a nickname. Although I do like the name Clara I think Clair(Claire, Clare) flows better with Agatha because both end with ’a’. That’s just my opinion... Good luck finding the right name and congratulations!

To clarify:

I think Clara doesn’t flow as well as Clair because both Agatha and Clara end with ’a’. Its a little halting when you say the two names together.
