depends on how out there they are- my name was Taryn, and growing up it was uncommon, Didn’t have any problems, othedr than spelling it....( I would say- sounds like Karen, but with a yn) My daughters name is Elin, most people get it right, or ask, Eh-lynn, or Ee-lynn. I am a teacher, so I have seen a lot of uncommon names that lead to teasing, such as Aloha, Nestle, Sunsaray, Killian, and Mammy.

All the names like Keagan, Katelyn, Abbey, and Deanna that had ambiguous spelling were a pain for the child to spell out every time, but they didn’t get teased and generally their names were admired. But I know a girl called Raine, and a boy called Blue and because these names sound like or are actual words, both are always teased. Blue finds colouring frustrating because everytime someone says "Blue shouldn’t you be using blue". He’s 4 right now so this is happening a lot. So names with uncommon spellings - good, names that resemble "real" words - bad.

I had too students in my class (the same year) named Precious...one was black, one was white. No one teased them, but the name was different and to have 2 students with that name at the same time was strange.

A friend of mine had a student named "Baby Sally." Luckily she went by Sally, but all the legal documents listed her name as Baby. She was a rought and tought little girl, she needed to be.

Here are the strangest names that I have ever met people with, and sorry but they are entirely bizarre:
Im’Unique as in I am unique. When I asked this like girl her name she said I’m unique. I said "Of course you are; all people are uniqu". And she relplied, "No, my name is Im’Unique".

Orangejello & Lemonjello-They are twin brothers. But the j’s in the names are pronounced kind of like a zha sound. Its hard to explain; but obvioulsy they are spelled orange jello and lemon jello. Why, Why, Why?

Lastly, I know of a woman who always referred to being pregnant as carrying her precious cargo, so she named her son and daughter Cargo and Treasure.

You can imagine how all of the names worked out for these people. None of them were taken seriously. And I thought the little girl named Im’Unique was just making it up.

My son is going into grade 2 this fall. From his last year’s class list the only names I’d say are uncommon and not bizarre (excluding ethnic names like Xinyi) are Talia for a girl and Austin for a boy. But those aren’t so uncommon either.

My daughter is in a class with a ton of weird names. It’s like the richer you are the more weird names do you need

October Tuesday - What? That’s just mean. She is the cutest girl but I feel so bad for her.
James - Not a weird name you think but it’s a girl. She’s very tiny and obviously doesn’t look like a James
Fame - That’s my oldest daughters best friend. I would never name her Fame that’s probably gonna be the right name for her one day she’s always willing to dance and sing.

So many weird names I can’t understand..

In my son’s pre-school is the cutest little girl with long curly blonde hair and blue eyes. Her name is Evangeline and it fitted her!

I tought a 7th grade class and there was a girl named Sylver Lyons Smith she didn’t realyy get teased by her classmates but some kids in 8th grade teased her until they learned her story... (She was a crack baby and is abused. And her left arm is deformed.)

I had a student named Virgen (spelled just like this). It was so embarrassing to call on her. Luckily, this was an elementary school cl[removed]o her name went over some of the kids heads, however, I can’t imagine her in high school...poor girl. She was hispanic, so maybe it was a common name in her culture, not sure.

Hum... to the previous poster who taught a 7th grade class... You just gave the full name and the very personal story of one of your students. You do know that all the posts here can be easily found in any search engines? And I’m sure the school you worked for has a policy against disclosure of personal information about students. Seriously.
