"Andy" as vs. nickname for vs. Alexander?

Do you think it is strange to use Andy as a nickname for Alexander? My husband doesn’t like Alex, and I don’t like Xander - I guess we like a gentler nickname. What do you think?

I saw call him whatever you like. My daughter is Makenna and my mom from the day I told her what I was naming her she decided to nn her Mickey.. nn’s just happen. If you don’t like the other nn’s then Andy will work just fine.

I think it’s a bit of a stretch but it could work. What about the nn Sasha? It’s a common nn for Alexander. GL!

I don’t think Andy really works for Alexander

I think Anders would work much better. Andy is a stretch. At least ander is the end of "alexader" But I agree w pp. If you name him Alexander, SOMEONE is going to call him Alex at some point. I think you should choose a different first name and make Alexander a middle name. No one nick names middle names! That’s exactly the same situation my friend was is. She loved Alexander, but hated Alex, so she named her son Aiden Alexander. Good compromise.

I think Andrew Alexander sounds great, why don’t you do that and call him Andy?

We really want to use James as the mn (after his dad and granddad) but thanks for the replies. I suspected that Andy was a stretch, but thought I’d throw it out there. Ugh... back to the drawing boards... why is finding a good name with a good nickname so difficult?

Anderson James NN Andy. Pretty great name with the NN you want...

People will think you didn’t have the sense to know the correct nickname.. Andrew or Anderson would work, but Alexander doesn’t.
