Is vs. Aidan vs. too popular
I live in Illinois and only know one boy named Aidan (or any of it’s spelling varients). Is Aidan popular where you live? Do you think it’s a name on the rise to top 10 status?? I love the name, but don’t want an overly popular name for our little guy.

I hear Aidan all the time, but I live in heavily Irish MA, so that may have something to do with it.

They track the popularity of the names that come in on newborn requests for a SS card. They’ve gone back to 1879 so far and are still working on it. The numbers for 2007 will be out around mother’s dayt 2008. Aidan is #44 natinally. Not horribly popular but up there.

Forgot to mention, Aidan is the original, Irish spelling. Aisen, Aidyn, Ayden, Aydan & etc. are American variants.

I know a few Aidens with different spellings. It’s 30th most popular name for baby boys in the US right now. Popular isn’t bad, but I like names to be a little more rare.

I say go for it. It’s a great name and even if their are a few others it will be your little Aidan. I would use the name you love.

I like Aidan, it’s my nephew’s name. I don’t know any others though I do know all kinds of little boys AND girls with rhyming names: Jayden, Braden, Caden, Hayden, Shaedyn, Peyton, Baden, Rayden... so just keep that in mind.

Hummm, thanks for the good feed back. We’re having twins and I thought Aidan and Nadia would be cute (they are the reverse of each other). Matchy, but not in an obvious way. I guess I’ll have to think it over and see how we feel about the names in a few months...

FYI Aedan is actually the original Gaelic/Irish spelling that we chose for our son.
