Elise pr. "ah-leez" vs. Elize pr. "ah-leez"

I heard this name in a movie and I really like it. However, the character was from Europe, and I’m in the U.S. I wasn’t sure which spelling to use since Elise would prob. be pr. ah-lees. Also, my cousin has a one year old named Eliza and my sister is having a baby any day now and was leaning toward Elizabeth after our mom... is Elise/Elize too similar to these two? And do you think it’d be better to use Elise/Elize for a fn or mn? Would it be silly to use since it’s a French pr. of the name?

i think it is an adorable name and your family members will most likely be overjoyed to hear that you named your child after them. I think Elise with a "Z" is better. It, to me, brings a little more of a modern swing. Something about the letter z! Good luck and have a happy pregnancy (:

Elyse pn is el-EES

I don\’t think having even the exact same name as a family member is a problem. Lots of parents give their kids their own names.

I’ve never heard Elise pronounced any other way that eh-LEEZ. I know a few girls named Elyse who say eh-LEECE and two named Elisa who say eh-LEE-za.

I don’t think pronunciation-wise Eliza, Elizabeth and Elise will be too bad, since they all have different sounds, but I’d ask your cousin and sister what they think, just in case. GL!

Thanks for the input!

Where I’m from Elise/Elyse is pr. eh-leese/leece... I’ve never heard it with a Z sound except for this once, unless you count a time when I met a girl named Analiise (on-ah-leez), which is a bit too much for me.

There’s also Elsie and Edie and Evie and Eden if you are looking for alternatives.

I would still use Elise with the pronunciation you want, but just tell people it’s the French pronunciation.
