Popular, but Love it! vs. Unpopular, kinda Love it...

Which would you choose? I love the overly popular names Elizabeth, Ella, and Violet. But I don’t want our daughter to be one of hundreds with her name in her school, or work place. I sort-of like the names Elsa, Diane, and Dora but not nearly as much. I’m having such a tough time choosing between popular and not. So which would you choose? Why? Is there a balance I can find, or should I settle for an unpopular name? Thanks for the help!

Elizabeth is popular, but it’s a great name, plus, Ella and Elsa are just a few of the nn’s that you can use with Elizabeth. Others include: Elissa, Eliza, Beth, Betty, Bessie, Lizzie, Ellie, Liza, Elle, Elise, Izzy, Libby, Lily, Liz....

Names are popular because they great names but I see your point. There is always the option of giving her a unique middle name. That way she may not be the only Elizabeth in her school but shed be the only Elizabeth (whatever unique middle name you might choose). Go with the name you LOVE. Don’t settle.

I love the more popular names. A lot of the popular names really are not too popular. I teach 2nd grade and have never had a Violet, Ella, or ELizabeth. The other names you listed are quite dated. Go with what you love.

Feeling your pain. Love the dated names, however they sound "too old" for some people. But I too do not want real popular names-I like a little "twist" on things. I love Ella, but about 2 or 3 of my friends recently named their little ones Ella and the other Briella. Plus we have a family member with a 2 yr old named Gabriella. So it was out for me. I like Elsa, Ellie & Liza
