Comment vs. on vs. Names

Hi there! In the first comment I will post all my favorite boys first names (middle name would be John no matter what). Please comment on each name (what impression does it give you, do you like it or not, etc.) and/or put them in order of preference. I have ones that stick out more than others to me, but I would appreciate honest and respectful comments on each. Thanks!

My favorites are Nathanial, Matthias and Nolan.
Surnames-as-firstnames can be cool, but can sound really preppy too. Good luck!

I like the ones I left in the list, Grayson, Griffin, and Oliver are my favourite. I find Cohen and Rohan interesting, I think I might like Rowen a bit better. Is Rohan pronounced row-han like hand or row-hon?

I like them in this order:
Caleb-lovely, ages well, adorable on a little boy
Nathaniel-ditto
Matthias-nice classic name and uncommon too!
Elias-same as Matthias
Elijah-a great name that ages well
Noah-very popular, but still a good name that ages well
Oliver-a bit older style, but still lovely
Owen-sounds ok
Rylan-sounds ok
Isaiah-sounds ok
Kieran-a nice Irish name
Brennan-same as Kieran
Nolan-sounds ok

I don’t like (but still in order of preference):
Kylan-sounds like you mixed a bunch of names together
Grayson-too dull...no one wants to be called "gray"
Griffin-misspelt Gryphon
Anderson-a surname, however Andy is cute (better with Andrew though)
Davis-again, a surname, but Davey is cute (better with David though)
Rohan-sounds like a drug
Hendrix-while Hendrik is nice, Hendrix just makes me think of Jimi Hendrix and that you must be obsessed with him to name your son after him
Cohen-a surname and unflattering IMO

To answer people’s questions/comments

I think Rohan can be pronounced either way but for us I think it would be Row-han (not hon). It’s certainly not the name of a drug, but is the name of one of Bob Marley’s sons. It is an alternative spelling to the Irish Rowen/Rowan and is also a Hindi name.

Hendrix - I do love Jimi Hendrix but really just like the sound of the name more so than being obsessed with him.

I dislike the nn’s Andy and Davy. Davis is a family surname on my side of the family.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Anderson-Cute but needs a nn, since you dont like andy as a nn what about anders?
Brennan- its nice but i feel like its missing the "d" sound.
Caleb- cute for a little boy but ages well.
Cohen- diffrent but nice, not sure how i feel about cohen john though.
Davis- too lastnameish
Elias- personally not a fan but nn Eli would be fine.
Elijah- ditto.
Grayson- love it, its my sons middle name but its spelled "Gracin"(my maiden name)
Griffin- its a great name but it doesnt work with john.
Hendrix- love it
Isaiah-no
Kieran- thats (KEE-ran) right?? its nice but i dont think it works
Kylan- its great as long as its KAI-lan and not KILL-an.
Matthias- ive never really been able to picture calling a kid matthias, its just way too serious, but with nn matt it would be fine.
Nathaniel-great name, especially nathaniel john. they sound good together.
Noah- great name but noah john is way too short, it just doesnt sound right.
Nolan- wonderful name.
Oliver- cute and ages well
Owen- no offence but when i picture an owen he’s always on the chubby side.
Rohan- rohan john?? are you trying to rhyme??
Rylan- i stronly dislike this name, perhaps ryler?

hope this helps

Yes I like Anders for a nn
Although I like Brennan I’m not a big fan of Brendan
Kieran is Kee-ran/Keer-an -
Kylan would definitely be KAI-lan, not Kill-an
For Matthias I would go with the nn Matty although I’m sure he’d be called Matt too and hate Matty once he was a teen
As for Rohan John I wondered if it was too rhymey but it’s Ro-han (2 syllables) - it is close, but not actually rhyming.

Thanks for the feedback
