Charles Alexander vs. Charlie Alexander

OK. We love the name Charlie for our soon-to-be-born baby boy (due July). However, we don’t really like Charles, Charlton, or any other name that can be shortened to Charlie for him. If we HAD to (and most of you voted for it) then we would name him Charles with the nickname of Charlie. We just think Charlie isn’t very professional for when he is older, but don’t want to name him Charles. What shall we do? Shall we go back to the drawing board? We’re running out of time!!! His big sister is Ruby Annaliese and she is 3. Thanks!

If concerned w/ Charlie not being ’professional’ when he is older, then I would go back to the drawing board. If you have any reservation on a name, then you are not 100% sold

I pretty much agree with poster 2...Charlie got my vote since you don’t like Charles...I suppose he could go by Lee when he got older if he thought Charlie was babyish but that doesn’t help the job application issue

I think that unfortunately you should find something different altogether. But look on the bright side--that perfect name is still out there just waiting for you to find it!

I think that if you are going to call him Charlie then just name him that. And if he does not think it is professional enough then he can decide to go by Charles. Really, what difference is it to go from Charles to nn Charlie or Charlie to nn Charles?

Same difference in my opinion.

I think Charlie is fine on it’s own. If you like that best, then use it!! I don’t find the name "not professional". My dad’s name and his grandfather’s full name were both Charlie and they did fine professionally. I also work with some Charlie’s, so I don’t think it would hinder employment or how well he does professionally at all. GL!

He can always go by Chuck when he’s older. That can be a bit more professional the Charlie.
