Elizabeth vs. ?

Hi, I love the name Elizabeth and want to name my daughter that. My family has a long line of women named Elisabeth with an "S" including my grandmother, her mother, my cousin etc... Do you think I have to us an S instead of a Z in my daughter’s name even though I like the Z name better? Also, Do you like Elizabeth Rebecca, Elizabeth Charlotte, Elizabeth Emma, or Elizabeth Anne better? Thanks, Molly

I say use the z and I like Elizabeth Charlotte the best.

I think it would be nice to use the traditional family spelling (there are so few things that are traditional these days), but if you don’t like it then change it. Of all your choices, I like Elisabeth Anne and Elisabeth Charlotte the best. Good luck!

My family spelling is Elisabeth too and I’ve always been happy it’s less common. It’s also softer. If you don’t like it, however, use the z version. I’d use it in the middle though, so no one would likely be offended. Elizabeth anne is my favorite.

I like Elizabeth Anne or Elizabeth Charlotte. I prefer Elizabeth w/ a z too, but s is fine for family reasons. I think I like the z because I like the nn Eliza for a child.

I think ’s’ looks pretty. If you are naming your child after family members, you should spell it the same way. How about Elisabeth Claire or Elisabeth Grace?

elisabeth anne/grace/claire are all fillers.. i like elisabeth much better, but i think it’s oka yif you use the z..

elizabeth charlotte/rebecca are too long and those tow names and emma just do not flow... what about...

I personally Elisabeth spelled better with an ’s’, but it eliminates most possible nicknames like Liz, Lizzie, or Eliza (I dislike Beth), if you are planning to shorten her name. I agree that the ’s’ makes the name softer and more elegant, but if you want your daughter to be different from her relatives, go with the ’z’. Here are my thoughts on the middle names you selected:

Elisabeth Rebecca--I personally think this sounds longs and does not flow very well.

Elisabeth Charlotte--This is classic, two elegant names paired together, but Charlotte kind of defeats the purpose of the softness of the ’s’ spelling of Elisabeth, so if you choose this, I would recommend spelling it as Elizabeth.

Elisabeth Emma--Too many "E’s" It sounds like you are trying to make a tonge-twister out of her name, so I would not go with Emma.

Elisabeth Anne--Sounds bland to me. My middle name is Nicole, and growing up I despised the fact that so many people have Nicole as a middle name, so I would go with a name that is less common.

Here are some middle names I like:

Elisabeth Gianna--I think this flows nicely, but don’t go with it if you’re last name starts with an ’O’. (The initials would be EGO!)

Elisabeth Jane--A smooth middle name that works well, but isn’t bland or too common like Anne.

Elisabeth Norah--Very cool-sounding, without being way out-there or too common. Flows masterfully.

Elisabeth Theresa--A little strong, but charming. Don’t use this if you have a problem with it being affiliated with Mother Theresa.

Elisabeth Gwynne--Pretty and sophisticated, but nothing over-the top. I prefer this spelling to "Gwen" that looks short for Gwendolyn.

Elisabeth Sarai--Traditionally pronounced "suh-RAY" (not to be confused with Katie Holmes’s "sur-REE"-Suri) this is a fabulous choice if you are Jewish or Christian (or want to plant a seed of faith) as it appears in the Old Testament of the Bible, but is not a common name.

Well, Phew. I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
The Baby Name Elf (Your Little Helper)

I prefer Elisabeth with an S and think it would have more meaning. For some reason Elizabeth with a Z doesn’t sound or look as pretty to me.
