Name vs. Ideas

Hey there! We are pregnant with our third child, but our first human child (we have two dogs, Putter and Driver, who are like our children). The game of golf has made a huge impact on mine and my husband’s life. We would like our child’s name to have something to do with it, but so far we have not been able to find anything! Do you have ANY ideas?! Thank you for your time and God bless! ~Kareah and Cory

Well, I’d avoid any names like the ones you gave the dog. What about using the name of one of your favorite golfers? Just don’t use Tiger :)

Who are your favorite pro golfers?

I don’t golf either... but what about using the name of a famous golf course or a golf course that you and your husband both love? The only well known course I can think of is Torrey Pines in California. Torrey would be cute. GL!

Torrey isn’t bad, although I think of it more as a nickname. We really like Rickie Fowler, Steve Sticker, Rory McIlroy, and Phil Mickelson but we don’t love their names.

Rory Brant "last name". As in the golfers Rory McIlroy and Brant Snedeker. Or Scott Callaway "last name". Because it originated in scotland and callaway is a popular golf brand.
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
You may have not seen where we said our favorite golfers, but Rory was listed and we don’t love it as a name, and we like Scott but not Callaway.

This was a hard one! Of all the names I like Scott Andrew, Mark Kearney for boys, Teegan Augusta, and Taylor Kearney, although I loved the suggestion of Elin :)
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
Elin just reminds me of Tiger’s ex wife. We like Scott (although we can’t use Andrew), Mark Kearney, and Taylor Kearney (for a boy). We are really leaning toward Aurora Teegan for a girl right now.

Aurora Teegan is beautiful, and yup, that Elin can swing a golf club, LOL! I think it is a pretty name, though! I like Scott, Mark, and Taylor Kearney as well! I like Teegan Aurora too
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
What do you think of Taylor Scott? I like Mark a lot, but it sounds horrible with our last name (sadly).
posted by poll poster :: 12 years ago | report
very handsome!
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
Taylor Kearney sounds way too feminine to me. Aurora Teegan is kind of cute though. Taylor Scout sounds like it would be a girl’s name. Not a fan of how it sounds together either. GL!
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
The name wasn’t Taylor Scout, it was Taylor Scott. And if we use Taylor it would be for a boy.
posted by poll poster :: 12 years ago | report
I do like Scott Taylor as well..... wdyt?
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
The name doesn’t flow as well to us as Taylor Scott does.

Talon
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
What does Talon have to do with golf?
posted by poll poster :: 12 years ago | report
OK, this is a tough one. My Dad was a golfer and we got to go the most beautiful golf course (that I had ever seen) in Pebble Beach, California. It is very near the city of Carmel, so that would be a possible girl’s name. I also thought of the sand traps and so any name that has sand in it like Sandra, Alessandra, Cassandra and the nn. Sandy. For a boy Alexader, nn Sandy (or not!). Another possibility for a girl --> Caddie. For a boy, Jack, Palmer, Tiger (or not!)
posted by guest :: 12 years ago | report
Carmel reminds me of a stripper name (sorry to anyone who likes this name, just my personal opinion). I like the idea of the nickname Sandy but not a huge fan of the name Sandy. Palmer is somewhat nice. I think we are pretty much set on Aurora Teegan for a girl.
posted by poll poster :: 12 years ago | report
Oh, funny about Carmel. I’m the one who suggested. I have known 2 people with that name, but I lived in an area with many Hispanics and both were Latina.
